Clutch Bell Bearings..... Your tips for longevity
I have an Mbx6 & Mbx6T
I'm fairly new to nitro A few questions: metal shielded or rubber? Some take the rubber seal off and degrease then lube. Do most do this? If so, what products are you using? Ceramic or Cheapos? I've read that they both fail, so just get the cheapos and just replace more frequently. That's what I do now. I buy the 10 pack of Proteks from Amain for $10. A buck a bearing. |
Use the AVID metal shielded reg bearings, blow the grease out with compressed air before use, don't shim you clutch to tight and they will last a long time and there only a dollar each.

theese ones are expensive, but i get three races on one set in a Losi. They are way better as they are build to take higher axial forces. |

And don't remove the grease, leave those poor bearings alone....

I like the losi HD bearings. I use o clean the grease out and oil them but you have to do that after every main. Now I just run them until they feel gritty. Avid or tko are good too. The biggest thing to getting them to last is proper shimming. To tight or too loose and they blow quickly. I use a kyosho shim kit they come in 3 sizes that allow me to shim the cb just right.

if you don't blow out your CLUTCH BEARINGS the grease will sling out all over your clutch shoes and you will be slipping until it burns off.

So rubber or metal shielded? I've heard both.

I use the shield regular Losi's and they seem to last a few race days. I've only had one bind up but I am religious about cleaning my vehicles. |
I use protek bearings and get at least 3-4 race weekends(1.5-2 gal) out of them. I make sure to check/clean them between every race.

I am actually doing a test right now on bearings in my Z-Car ZMXT-8 Truggy.
I am running dual shield (rubber/metal) ceramic bearings from http://www.4chobbysupply.com/servlet/StoreFront I have 4 races on a set and they are still going very strong! Other than removal and inspection, thats it. |
bearing longevity will depend on setup / proper shimming AVID for clutch not the best actually had one bearing that froze on the crank it was a pain to get off but I change them pretty frequently.

Wow you guys are gettin some serious time out of cheap bearings. I get quailifers on one set and mains on the other. Screw that, Im not takin a chance...especially on dollar bearings. I have had really good luch with losi HD bearings, use those for all big races....
