AMB transponders
can someone let me know are the amb pt good for unregulated 2s rx lipo
power as i want to run the 7955tg and the m11x rx unregulated and unsure if thats safe or not thanks in advancs |
yes they are

I've run an AMB unregulated without issue.
I haven't heard of anyone having issues doing this either. |
They're rated for 5-8VDC. I don't think 0.4V (due to fully charged 2S lipo voltage = 8.4V) is going to be too much of an issue. When you're using more than 8V to supply the transponder, you're supposed to use a resistor in series with the transponder.
When a power voltage of more than 8 VDC is to be used, a resistor of 100 ohms per volt over 8 VDC must be connected in series with the red wire. So 10 VDC means 200 ohms in series with the red wire. Power of the resistor should be/ is 0.1 watt per volt, so 0.2 watt or more in case of 10 VDC. |
hello
thanks lads good info needed

I havent had any issues with mine yet.

this will be a thing of the past as the new Mylaps PT's are rated for 16V now. |
i have heard problems with the m11x reciever handling straight lipo though, they are only rated to 6.0v input voltage
|
I have been running unregulated since august without issues. I race about 2x per month.

since when do you run a M11 Frank. ;) Just messin with ya. |
A bit off topic, but why do you need to run a transponder? What would one do for me? I know it is a racer thing, but I am not sure what they do. Sorry for the dumb question.

They are the item on your car that allows lap times to be recorded. Basically you put it on your car, when you pass a loop under the dirt, a signal is sent to a computer software and it updates your time/place in the race. If you are just bashing around, there is absolutely no need for one. |
I am building up my first racer right now. Is this something I need to add to my shopping list? I know I see them on the other racer cars at my track, so I guess I probably want one, right?
And if so, what would be compatible with the Losi 8ight I am building (Spektrum receiver and a Losi 2C 7.4v Lipo)? Sorry for being a thread ninja. :batman: |
You dont have to worry about compatibilty for PT's. There is only one brand. They run about 100.00 tho. People are buying some that are a generic brand which are about half the price.
