Right Lipo for starter box.

So here are the batteries im looking at for my starter box. Will just this one be enough ? Lipo

Or should i go with two , something like this ? ebay Lipo

You need a 4s that has at least 15c and 2000 mah highe is better. I use a losi 4s 20c 2200 mah and it starts both cars all race day and then some.

The zippy is more than enough much bigger than what I run.

Used this one for over a year, no issues

i use the protek 4s 2200mah and it is plenty. the venom pack is nice. venom just lowered the prices on all there lipos.

i cant seem to find the one i just picked up on ebay, but for a starter box you dont need anything more than a 15C discharge rate.

heres another one from the hobbyking website for $20 cheaper:http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...00mAh_4S1P_15C

2000mah 20C and better

I use zippy-h 5000mah 30C so i dont have to recharge it that often

4s of course

How many cycles are you guys getting out of the zippy packs? People sure seem to like them.

wallot 01-19-2010 09:14 AM

some of my packs are 60+cycles and still in perfect shape.

with the battery technology moving so fast i can't justify buying battery that promises 300+cycles for 3times the price of cheap packs that perform as good ,because in one or two years time, there will be new, better generation of batteries.

they are pretty much all the same frank , i havent had any trouble whatsoever when testing any of there batteries . i would put a 6v lipo cutoff in your starter box though ;) batteries get pretty round when over discharged :D

I have a 4S 25c 5000mah zippy and it takes forever for me to use up all the charge. After 3 race days I still had around 60% left. I think a 2200mah to 3000mah would be the most practical. You can get a lipo voltage checker on eBay for a few bucks. When the volt per cell gets to around 3.7V/cell @ no load (resting) go ahead and charge it.

i got the ofna blue truggy box and some ppl say if you go lipo you want to beef up the wiring. What do you guys recomend for this. as i will be going lipo this summer.

Deans 12ga. wet noodle wire is about the best you can get.

although, i had some high end 12ga. speaker wire laying around, and ive been using that just fine for a few months now with no issues.

either way, 12ga. braided wire, and youre golden

I used to run the Protek one until my second one sh8t the bed....I now use a 3S 15c 2200mAh pack for my heli and it works just fine. Honestly gel cells are rated at 12V and a fully charge 3S lipo is 12.6V so it's got plenty of juice. A 4S lipo comes in at 14.4V so you're actually overpowering your starter box motor. It's no big deal, but overtime the motor won't last as long..... my 2 cents

When using 4s lipo batteries would the 6v lipo cut of still be ok or is it too low of a cut of voltage for the 4s lipo batteries?
