Default Run times for receiver battery

I bought a second hand Losi 8ight RTR which has a 1600mah NiMH receiver pack. I'm paranoid of it going flat and having a run-away. How many tanks should I use as a rule of thumb before charging it?

I'm going to get a LiPo pack soon to replace the NiMH, how many tanks can I expect from that?

with a ds6305 JR steering servo and a futaba s9255 on throttle i get about an hour with a 1600 mah nimh pack, so with stock servo's you should get about 90 mins.
charge after every 6 or 7 tanks to be safe

I did a 45 minute truggy final running two 7.2v jr servos and it used about 1200mah of a 1600mah 6v nimh hump pack.

An hour would be a good time to set as a guide.

Excellent, thanks guys. I was charging after every 5 tanks so it's good to know I was pretty on the money and not too paranoid. Cheers.

always run a mechanical fail safe. rubber bands work best. when the nimh starts to go you will tell cause the steering gets slow and the throttle gets glitchy. i've driven 4 minutes with it like this and never ran away. the lipo on the other hand with a regulator will usually go a whole race day and be at about half when you charge it, but because its lipo i would not try to get 2 days out of it. maybe try a life pack when they become more easily available.
