...good deal?

Here is the scoop, I want an 1/8th scale buggy but my budget isn't too high right now. Maybe 400 bone. My ideal car would be electric but after the roller, ESC, motor, receiver, servo and lipo... $$$$... yeah. So is the Hyper 7 RTR a good car? Any issues with the stock kit that need to be fixed right away? How reliable and consistent is the engine. I'm used to the gasoline 2-stroke engines on my baja, so I'm kinda a noob with Nitro.

Any advice is appreciated, Thanx!

I don't know a lot about the buggy but I would consider something that has atleast an fm radio instead of an am

thats a pretty decent car but the radio that comes with it sucks. my brother bought one and then went out and bought a good spektrum radio right after he got it. its a nice buggy though its real durable.

I raced a hyper 7 buggy a few years ago for a season. Nothing wrong with the buggy itself. Handles well. I'd get it over that other one. Parts availability would be better. In fact, if you do get it and need some spare parts, pm me down the road and I'll gather up all I have and give you a good deal. I still have a fair number of bits and pieces from mine.

I've got the TQ Black. It's a real good buggy itself and that Hyper .21 3 port is actually a real good running engine. It's real snappy for a cheaper engine. It's not going to run with the $350+ O.S. or Novarossi's but it's good for a RTR engine. As others mentioned, the radio and servo's are basically junk. You can get some OK servo's for around $35 which are metal gear high torque, either Hitec or JR Sports servo's but if you want the best servo's you'll be spending $120 each. You can find pretty nice used radio's on here for under $100, either a Spektrum DX2 or DX3 if you want cheap 2.4 Ghz or you can find some cheap FM JR XR3i or XS3i if you don't need 2.4 Ghz. If you're going to get into racing it at a club level I think a big bore shock upgrade is in order. You can get the shock kits from the O'Donnell Z01-B buggy for $26.95 a set from RC Planet. I've got those on both my Hyper 7's.

I always tell people to get better quality used stuff that to settle for something that might not be up to speed with what you are racing against just to save money. No sence in buying everything twice. You could have a pretty good setup for 400 if you shop around. Let me know if you are interested in a FT RC8 buggy.

Used buggies always scare me unless I see them run locally. The used engine scares me more than anything else I guess. Calcium chloride clay tracks also are rough on buggies. We've got a track like that around here and it kills the chassis real fast and rusts the metal quickly if you don't tear it down ASAP.

Thanks for the advice. I forgot to mention that I'm NOT going to race it. This will be my beater car, I only race 1/5th scale. Also I have a Futaba 4PK so I'll buy a receiver anyway.

also check what your local hobby shop to see what parts they carry. just easier to buy local than mail order.

Well, look at your local hobby shop because if they stock no parts for that car you wont really have any fun because with bashing your going to mess around and break anything really, and you want to be able to just go pick up the part and not have to wait a week buying on line.

Honestly, if your hobby shop has parts for a few buggys buy one of those. It really doesnt matter when your bashing if buggy "a" goes 3 mph faster than buggy "b" but its different in racing sometimes that matters.
