Default engine cleaning...

I have never thought of doing this before but I tore my engine down for my normal inspection and maint, going to put new ceramics f&r in as they have 5 gallons on them now, anyways anyone ever use crockpot to clean their engine crank case, like we do with our exhausts? I wouldnt think it would hurt it in anyway but dont wanna find out the hard way LOL

I used an ultrasonic parts cleaner with a mix of simple green and water. Worked great.

Ooo your wife will love this. Take the crock-pot and use anti-freeze (the cheep stuff) and set it on low overnite. Thing will come out like new in the mourning. DO NOT give it back to her. Get her a new from Santa. BTW it will take any anodise off whatever.

Default engine

after i leanrt the hard way about always keeping it clean with engines.

i have got a question. when we race and need to check the glow plug or even after a race day . how do u guys clean the area around the glow plug prior to removal?

since i dont have an air compressor readily available with me, i use a brake cleaning. spray into it upside down until i see no gunk around the glow plug then remove it.

how about u guys? any suggestions?

Same thing. Also remove the plug while engine (vehicle) upside down.

This is what I use to clean engines, it is a Hotsy cleaner. It uses hot water with a alkalai soap, it spins and has jet from the bottom top and sides. 5 Minutes and the engine looks like new. I don't put the piston and sleeve or carb in there though.

Let's see, $400 engine or $5000 dollar or more cleaner. The Request a quote on the hotsy site turned me away.

damn. Really??? How hard is it to clean a case? Simple green, disassemble, take out P/S, crank. Take the bearings out, Clean with brake cleaner, reassemble.

Just don't go 10 gallons before cleaning it. Do it every couple gallons and it will be easy.

cooking it overnight with antifreeze

Hey guys, you are reading too much into the maintenance area with these engines, acquire one, tear in it down, inspect, clean, seal, break it in with respect, race it At this point, if you have been vigilant no need to replace, rods cranks, bearings, or anything . These engines are made for racing, and thats just what they will do

I just use the one shown we have at work, not worth having one for just Rc motors.
