Your supposed to measure it, but what I do is when I notice the screw heads are no longer flush with the chassis I know its worn down so I change it. I got about a year of running on my stock XRAY chassis, found a new one on ebay for $35. Skid plates on the bottom help allot

I wait till mine looks like a taco and then run it some more till it cracks. Then it time for a new one.

All kidding aside, I watch the front kickup section and the rear tail. When both wear beyond 1mm then start looking for something new.
By that time though, I usually would just sell the car and start over.
And it will take you at *least* two seasons for most cars to get to that point.

Geez.
Most of our tracks are clay based and generally not that abrasive I guess.

I bought a used kyosho truggy from a guy here on rc tech, he said it had about a gallon or so on it and it looked pretty thin-then I realized he raced at the Nitro Pit.
On a side note my BCE chassis had over 10 gallons on it and was in a lot better shape than the stock K-car chassisM
Also its a good idea to strip the chassis bare and check that it is not warped or twisted in any way-doesn't usually happen but I have seen it.
+1 the DE skids are the shiznizzle-definately worth the coin!!
