How good are these? Are they pretty accurate?

I got one just for kicks. Installed it in the car. It worked (fairly well, I do have to admit, it's a pretty trick gizmo) for about 2hrs then just died - poof. Off to the bin it went. Still have the velcro tape on my battery box
