Something ticking in my drivetrain
 

Well i fixed the rear diff.. shimmed and set.. checked the front diff... the internal gears had some wear so I replaced those.

AND THE DAMNED THING STILL TICKS!

I am out of options.

Please tell me whats wrong!

Here are my possible problems and solutions
- Stripped wheel hexes, tried different wheels
-Rear diff gear mesh, re shimmed, replaced unit, shimmed again
-front diff, replaced unit-twice checked mesh. still nothing
-Center diff failure- found that crospins were worn, replaced them still ticking.

im not big on electric but you have checked all other gears how the gear mesh between the spur and pinion

yep thats all kosher. set the mesh with paper folded in half

i would double check your mesh thats what it sounds like

Yup Yup, one of your gears is not set right!!..either that or its a time bomb:D

like i was sayin it sounds to tight

I think were hearing 2 diffent clicks.

the really loud grinding like sound is my steel spur gear.

the click only happens under acceleration

The only thing that makes that noise are bad gear mesh, or blown bearings...get to work

Sounds like a bad bearing (or bad bearings) to me. Check them all and replace any that are sloppy.

Would bad bearings only make noise under acceleration?


Its a defined click-click-click-click under accel.

yes, the little balls inside only turn when the car is moving.

Ok it ONLY happens under hard braking and acceleration. not under low acceleration or coasting.

Dude we are trying to help you and you are arguing with us! I wasn't trying to be a wiseass, I meant when they turn slowly they may work just fine, when they spin fast if one or many are bad, the balls will make noise from the RPM's and the heat. You asked a question, we are all giving you the answer to your question, but for some reason you dont want to believe what we are saying:rolleyes: If you want to fix your Truggy, take it apart and check your gears and your bearings..It has to be one of these two things that are making the noise..Thank you for the smart ass comment, when I am trying to help you get your car fixed:weird:

How would I be able to diagnose the bad bearing from the good one if they only show there true colors at Rpm?

One way is to let her eat the throttle for a while, then check the parts for wear. Kind of Dr. House-ish, but sooner or later the root cause will show itself. :nod:
