Typically, you would seal the backplate and carb neck with engine sealant.

You should seal your engine before break-in. Setting up a new engine in a car I always mock up the alignment of the carb with your linkage, take the engine back out, then seal up around the HS needle assembly, pinch bolt ends, and base of the carb where it meets the case/block. Lucky7Rc engine sealant is designed for just that purpose.

Lucky 7 Rc Engine Sealant for nitro engines is a quick dry wicking air seal which doesn't require engine disassembly. If your nitro engine has an air leak around the neck of the carburetor, or the needle valve assembly, it can make the engine run erratically and change from lean to rich conditions. To avoid this problem it is always a good idea to seal up the carburetor around the neck and needle valve assembly, and this sealant is excellent for that purpose. You can also use it to seal the back plate of your engine to avoid air leaks around the back of the engine as well.

For mine i only do the backplate but thats because the mills I run have o-rings in the throat of the carb where it seats and at the top of the neck. But after a while I have been known to throw a dab around the neck of the carb you can just to be shure and use the lucky 7.
