I'm looking to get my first gas powered model.I was into rc a few years back and always messed with electro.


Anyways.


I've been looking at getting an 8ight but I may not have the money for it for a bit.So i was looking at cheaper rtr's

Are these any good?

8ight is ur best bet, maybe a hyper 7 tq black but you want something that you can get parts for at your lhs so sheck what they haave there. Also maybe an associated sc8

Ya everyone around here runs 8ights was just looking at something cheaper.

Guess I should check with my lhs and see what else they have too

Always a plus when other people have your car so when you break, everyone will have your part. Same thing if you are having a problem.

Try to consider the new CEN Matrix R2 RTR , its a good choice and for racing it HARD basically you need to change engine for a .21 and maybe shocks for the pro ones ...

Ok, all kidding aside, the Hyper 7/8/8.5 are decent cars, but the one you posted a link to is CRAP.

While the Losi 8ight is a great car, parts wear is pretty high (not breakage, it is pretty tough, but wear on driveline components... the expensive parts.) On the plus side, it has THE best "ready to run" engine in the industry. It also has a pretty decent radio, even though it doesn't have any exponential functions.

Keep looking and reading on here, you'll find out what is good or bad. I don't have any specific cars to suggest, but if you stick to something that your local hobby shop stocks parts for you will be happier in the long run. You WILL break things, it's just part of the hobby.

It is also very edgy and aggressive... not a very good thing for a beginning driver... but again, on the plus side, master it and you WILL have some driving skills.

I purchased the Hyper 7 TQ Black as my first car a few months ago. Very good car. Replace the stock steering servo with a metal gear one. Mine lasted all of 5 minutes. I have also has a few steering knuckles and c-hubs break. They are cheap enough though, but I replaced the knuckles with CNC ones now and have not had a problem. I've also noticed that as I got more experienced I broke less parts. Also buy a hump battery pack. You can get them for under $20 and the extra voltage speeds up the steering and you spend less on AA batteries. The only thing I have to warn you about is that this hobby is very addictive. Once you get going you find that you want this or that as an upgrade and you end up spending more money on a RTR to get it to what you want than if you just bought a kit in the first place. Like I said, I've been into RC for a couple of months and I've upgrade to a new car already (Hyper 7 is great but I found a good deal on a Jammin X1), am on my 3rd radio (went from stock 27mhz to a 75mhz Synthisized to a 2.4ghz DX3.0), have upgraded to digital servos and bought a $300 engine. Granted I could have had just as much fun without all the upgrading but I find Ebay addicting. If you think you might find yourself upgrading here or there, just spend the money and get what you really want now.

Also the Hyper .21 engine that comes with it is a great little engine. I have seen other engines available with the kit and can't attest to them, but the hyper is a nice little mill.

Also have to add that my first track experience was at an indoor track in the middle of winter. It was below freezing inside and that probably can be attributed to some of the broken parts. Plastic can get brittle in that cold of weather. I also cracked and blew out all four of the stock wheels in the 1st 2 weeks.
