RC8, difficult to build?
 

So I’ve built a few AE 1/10th electric vehicles, no problem. Considering I know little about nitro, how hard would it be for me to build a FT RC8

not hard at all cause it comes already build. all you have to do is put servos and motor in and your good to go lol. but i would take it apart and redo the diffs and shocks just in case they messed up at the factory. but its not had at all to re-build the rc8. i learned with out a instruction book lol.

Huh? I thought the FT kit was just that....a kit.

The RC8 was a race roller type kit, but it appears the RC8B might need to be assembled?

That's what im saying...is this not a kit that needs to be built?

I believe the new kit only has the shocks and diffs pre assembled. You definately want to rebuild them. And it should be a very easy build. I can tear mine completely apart and rebuild it in less than 2 hours. Pretty simple and straight forward.

Nope....the car is a 'race roller'. Car is already assembled except radio, tires and engine. Body needs to be painted and trimmed for engine clearance also. The 'service pack' is a list of updated parts that have already been installed on the car, although some cars may have had the service pack thrown in a bag into the box.

But the car is pretty much built. Definitely need to double check all metal-to-metal screws cause some can loosen. I lost a front kingpin screw on mine because it shook loose....

That's crazy, I've never seen a FT kit from AE that didn't come in a 100 bags that needed to be built. That's sort of the fun of it....

Kit requires assembly.
Eqipment Needed: .21 Size Engine. Tuned Exhaust Pipe. Radio Equipment. 30% Fuel. 8 AA batteries. Fuel bottle. Screwdrivers. Hobby knife. Lexan Paint.

It sounds like it comes partially assembled turnbuckles, shocks and diffs. but this the B not the straight RC8. Not authority though as I have not looked at a boxed RC8B yet.

I just want a Factory Team RC8, I don't care if I have to build it. I just wanted to know how difficult it is.

The FT RC8 (old car, I guess) comes 90% assembled. You need to build the radio tray and mount the electronics and your choice of tires. The RC8B (new car) will have preassembled shocks, diffs and something else I'm forgetting right now. :lol:

As far as difficulty to (re)build, it's not hard. No exotic diff shimming is necessary. The shocks are straightforward to build. You're already used to CVDs from 1/10th scale. You'll be fine. :nod:

So the FT is 90% built? That's pretty nice man. Sounds like I could pretty much have it RUNNING in about 2-3 hours tops.

I just got the last RC8 from my LHS 2 wks ago and had it together in a couple of hours ready to race. Some assembly is required, but the front, rear and center differentials are already installed as well as the front and rear suspension. Just follow the manual that comes with it and you will be ready for the track.

How are things in Mandeville? The last time I was there was after Katrina hit:( I grew up across the Causeway from you but went to SLU in Hammond. Hope things have gotten back to normal around there.

Hey man! I went to SLU too! Yeah things are good. I was living in Slidell during Katrina, and lost my job and house due to the storm. (my job got 26 feet of water in the building!)

But yeah this sounds great, I may pick up a brand new RC8 soon. What are people asking for rollers around here? $200-$350?
