tuning question

I have a 3.3 in my slayer, only has about a gallon through it, noticed when running it yesterday after I was running it for a while, it would bog slightly under wide open thottle, then it would clear up and pull through the rest of the rpms and run well. It seemed sort of intermitant, seemed like it was smoking good, checked the temp and it was 185, so it was running a little rich, tried the traxxas pinched test on the low side and it was ok. Do you point the temp gun directly at the glow plug to get good reading. I did have to change the glow plug so I think it was just too rich. Does the low side pinch test work on nontraxxas engines?

Pinch test works on all engines..temps are not indicative of a good tune..Just because its 185 does not mean its rich..always tune for performance and smoke, temps are just a safety number

Agreed

I usually point my temp gun at the head, just keep where you point it constant.

So I can just point the temp gun at the side of the cooling head? Someone told me that it had to be pointed right on the glow plug. I usually run around 220- 240 dergees, that is not too hot is it?

Nope thats perfect

It really doesnt matter about where you point it because the temp is just to make sure its running right, always base your tune on sound, performance and smoke

220-240 is good for the 3.3 point the temp gun right into the cooling head but not on top if the plug. right next to it is fine at the base of the head but next to the plug
