When heating a new engine, what position should the piston be?
Hey guys,
Just wanted your opinions on breaking in a new engine. When heating it with a hair dryer or heat gun, should the piston be at BDC? Does it make a difference?
Thanks

+1 on the bdc while heating the engine. The only time I wouldn't want the piston bdc is if you were taking off the back plate. Keep in the practice of moving your piston to bdc whenever possible to avoid forgetting to do and ruining a motor after you left the piston at the top after a run. Always check after you run. It's a routine you need to follow, one for breaking in, the other for taking the motor apart since they are the opposites.

if its not running, it should be at BDC. Rule of thumb
