newbie,need advise

hi guys,
i'm a newbie n i'm glad 2 b ere. need some advice...
i recently bought a mugen mbx-6 kit. i'm stil choosing the engine.
i hav shortlisted 2, O.S. Speed 21 VZB V-Spec 2 world edition or Ninja JX21-B01A

i'm a beginner n need an easy to tune mil, prefer more torque then top speed. wil b playing it on dirt track most of the time. i hav never tried these 2 mils. pls help...
thx

neither..if you are starting out, I would get a sub $200 motor like the Novarossi BF21. Nova's (IMHO) are the easiest to tune. I run a 21K in my truggy and the BF21 in my buggy. My 21K has about 6 gals on it and plenty of pinch left. I expect 4-5 more gallons.
my BF21 is fairly new, less than a gallon and has not opened up yet but has plently of power.

my next motor will be the P5 to replace the 21K.
people swear by OS but I have seen to many failures from others with them even after 2 Gal. I know nothing of the Ninja

yep my words exactly Nova .21 BF. fine engine..i am thinking on trying it in a truggy it is so good.

The 2 engines you posted are pretty much the same thing except the Ninja has some hard coated parts for longevity, I belive thats the only difference. I suggest a GO TECH 3 or 7 port race the 3 is $180 and the 7 is about $200 and will perform and out perform most engines with a Higher price tag. And these mills have longevity as long as its broke in properly just like any other race engine. There is a 5 port race but it has tons of buttum end off the line and for you being new to buggy and your buggy being very light I wouldnt suggest it, I run 1 though. And will have the 3 port also next week. I am sorry I didnt notice you posted the speed I though you listed a reg V-spec so the speed has all the coated parts and the ninja has some but besides that same internals and manufacturer.

If you want to go out and buy a good motor such as the ones you mentioned thats fine!!! If they have to much power for you to handle slow the car down by your throtle end point adjustment. I would buy the Novarossi motor though,,, they are awsome motors and the best we have ever had. Easy to tune and they last for ever. Theres a couple of guy's here that sale them. Houston and then another with a user name of NoBike. We purchased a Novarossi P5XS from NoBike,,, sorry I cant remember his real name over 5 gallons ago and like I said it is awsome. A lot of 10th. scale racers use the throttle epa's as they are so hard to drive.

malik 03-22-2009 07:10 AM

You could do that i do do that in my 10th scale you can use a light clutch set up and or very small venturi's in the carb. The ninja I mainly see in truggy, my PTM 5 port Go I ran in truggy for a bit last year now its in my buggy and I use an all carbon clutch with a 6.5mm insert. I have pulled many of those mills you listed with my modded $200 engine, by no means am I nocking them I am just saying you dont have to spend $4-$500 to go fast. I been wanting to try 1 of them BF limiteds myself I have heard mostly good things about them. Good luck with your choice.

thx guys,
the reason why i chose these 2 mills bcause is easy to get parts for os or ninja in my country then other brands...juz realise that the os hav 4 ports n the ninja hav 5 ports. wat is the difference between 4 n 5 ports?

John Schafer 03-22-2009 07:35 AM

Actually the O.S. speed has 3 induction ports and 1 exhaust port.
The JX Ninja has 5 induction ports and 1 exhaust port.

The Ninja costs considerably less and runs freakin awesome with the Ninja pipe. One of the best race combos out. However I kind of have to agree with everyone else here. If your just starting out buy a cheaper engine in the begining. For me it's not so much the power, but rather your lack of experience. Most guys new to nitro burn up the first engine learning how to tune. Some go through a few more than that even. Don't what to hear you bad mouthing the Ninja engine when it was your lack of tuning skill that killed it early. Once you get some experience tuning go ahead and get the high $$$ engine.

I like seeing new people at the track with ~$450 engines. It makes me feel that much better passing them with a $99 Go 3-port. :D

alexzone007 03-22-2009 02:38 PM

ninja jx21 mugen pipe restrictor 7-1/2 or osvspec the speed is to expensive and if you dont know how t tune is 500 to much vspec and ninja are awesome close to the same power its the driver what matters

if you bought all mugen stay whith mugen !!!

+1000000....new racers have no need whatsoever for anything over $200..

Dirtyboo, save your money and get a good reliable mill..The Nova 21BF is an awesome engine at $150

+1

it is a great mill, I just ran it yesterday againstall kinds of upper end mills, I had no probs running them down on straight, the Novarossi .21bf will haul the mail, and its cheap, but the quality is no joke...its not even really a budget engine IMO, only its pricetag.

Amain diddy:
This engine works best with the Novarossi 9886, OFNA 086 or Power Racing 086 tuned pipes and a Novarossi #6 standard plug. The Mugen Seiki MSR-1005 pipe is also an excellent pipe for this engine.

i use the 086 with great results.
