That's about all you can do at this point I think. If everything looks good I'd just run it and see how it does.

Yeah, throw it as far as you can.

It sucks you had to learn the hard way but we all have to start somewhere, I would just make sure that you always have a good oil up air filter on there, and when the conditions are dusty the air filter needs to be change very often.

mfrosty 03-12-2009 07:41 AM

Definately seems to have lost a little bit of it's compression. I'm going to fire it up here in a few (car's in pieces from cleaning up after yesterdays run). If it runs I'm going to have it pinched. $15-$20 is a hell of a lot easier to swallow than the cost of a new engine.

amdmoto 03-12-2009 07:42 AM

Hey rc mike have you ever raced at milan or at the track in white house?

Trevor Williams 03-12-2009 07:46 AM

preventetive maintenance on air filters is VERY important. You must inspect/replace EVERY time you run, dusty or not, just do it. YOU MUST KEEP A WELL OILED FILTER AT ALL TIMES. The AE rc8 airfilter is fine, no need to change it, just pull the zipties tighter next time, and make sure its cinched in the right locations. It sucked dirt in that area due to a poor seal, not because of the AE airfilter, the AE airfilter is fine.

ALSO MAKE SURE THE FILTER IS ALIGNED IN THE PROPER DIRECTION, IF NOT THE LID WILL KNOCK IT LOOSE A PINCH OR TWO AND YOU WILL SUCK DIRT LIKE CRAZY, IT HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF MINE ;)

I have had this happen. the fine dirt particals actually sanded the piston and I lost compression. the bearings were ok luckily, so I sent he piston and sleeve to OSROCKETS and within a week good as new. I wouldnt say the motor is trash just might need a little work thats all.

i can see exactly where the dirt got in there

circuled in red, you can see the dirt around that area in the big red circle, and in the small one you can see where the filter has been tucked in too much

I don't think it got past the zip tie at the neck. Definitely got past the filter element. Use grease on both sides of the filter that mate up to the housing.

I'm using the Power Save elements and I think that's where the real problem is. They don't even fit right :flaming:

As you can see from AE's instructions the inner one should be taller, which is not the case on the PS ones

Power Save owes me a new freaking modded engine

And the neck is taken care of

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/h...977/GoTech.jpg

Once that RTV cures I'll zip tie it.

I'm using 2 of the power save inner foams now

my power save elements are a very good fit, there are no gaps at all like the first picture you posted, they fit side to side with no dead space. That looks like its been cut or something? The proportion of that inner element is all wacked out bro.

Dude, whatever those are you are using for inner elements are incorrect.

this is what the power save rc8 inner elements look like:

Anyone know if they're members of this site? I have a SERIOUS bone to pick with them! :flaming:

+1 on the powersave. I used them forever on my rc8 and they were perfect. You have something on wrong as mine NEVER looked like that.

mfrosty 03-12-2009 08:42 AM

Mine don't even have the holes in them, I had to cut them myself.
