Default Spektrum sr3000

I have had a problem with this receiver since getting it second hand, I loose range occasionally, I have resoldered a new arial on but oops - trashed the board.
Looking around This receiver retails at about 60. there is another receiver the sr300 that retails at 35. Is this receiver ok or is it worth returning the 3000 for repair. I am using a dx3.0 using the 3rd channel for my transponder.
What are the differences with the receivers and is it worth paying the extra?
