Default First Buggy Kit

Hi guys, looking into getting my first buggy kit. I really like the HB D8, here is my only problem........ MONEY! I want a buggy that will make a fun racer, and something that I can bring up to the bike track and have fun with as well. I chose the D8 because I heard they are fairly tough, and I do like the price, not to mention my LHS is starting to carry tons of parts for them cince the owner runs his D8 and swears by it. Here is my question, with a budget od 1,000 dollars, would I be able to make this dream come true? I would like to go under that if possible, or should I look at getting a RTR Losi? I really want a kit though! If you guys could help me price some parts you would buy, like motor, pipe, servos, just to give me something to go off of I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks all!

Here is a quick list of the basics, people may disagree w/my choices but it is the best price to get you able to compete at the club level IMO. Everyone has their preferences, I'm not telling you to pick these items, just that I have seen all of these items compete at club level and are just fine. It is mainly just to show you that you can probably get started and either keep it under budget or close to it.

Radio/Receiver w/2.4g fhss-2 technology - 149.95

HB D8 - 309.99
https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/c...pl?pn=HOT67300
GO-Tech 3-Port Sport - 124.99
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/16977
Dynamite 086 Pipe - 54.99
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/9007
Reciever Pack 1400mah - 16.99
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/20044
Servos - Too Many Choices, you could probably get ones that work for $60.00/ea
You still have a bump box, fuel, glow igniter, charger, and tools. That will be another probably $100-$200 depending on what you go with.

When it is all said and done, your best bet to get a running package is to find someone either locally or on ebay/rctech/ect.. that is getting out that will sell you a package deal to get you running. That is where you will get in the cheapest. Just make sure their stuff is in good shape and that it is what you want to run (and is supported parts wise locally).

Just my .02, pls. don't bash the choices, they were just examples of how to get in the game under his budget.

grab a rtr. if you wanna get a kit dont skept on cheap stuff to put on it. if you get the rtr like a losi rtr, comes with a great radio, decent engine, and its only 544.99 heres a link

http://www.thebarnfloor.com/catalog/...roducts_id=359

you can save $450 and use it for better servos or just store it

The D8 is a good buggy, although a little heavy. Lots of people are running them having excellent luck with them. With the price point, you really can not go wrong.

Your other selection of a losi is great. However they are much more expensive. I would NOT go with the rtr, as you will have to upgrade the shock towers at a min, soon after purchasing.

I would get the D8 also the links that were put up are excellent but I do suggest the 3 port race over the sport model for $50 more you get TONS more engine. The radio is a good choice too I have it and had others for what it costs its excellent. You can maybe go to your local track and find a used starter box to save a few bux or maybe find a gold mine you never know. You can get a set of great servos for around $150 like 2 ACE DS1313's they are good strong and fast. Tools and oils and all that pit box stuff will come in time to have everything will cost you more than $1000 but you can get started Kit engine and pipe radio servos batteries and a box can be done.

Thanks for all the help guys, I heard that Losi discontinued the rtr? Is this true? I know its a great buggy so if it is true does anyone know why they did? I like some of your ideas of getting the Losi and just upgrading it. Let me know if you all have any news on the Losi rtr still being made? Thanks again!

Here are some links to the Losi RTR. I still suggest the D8 over the RTR, Losi is great I just haven't heard greatness from the RTR. But, if your interest leans that way I just want to help another racer get started. Here is what I found that is in stock as of now.

http://www.gshobby.com/index.php?mai...ducts_id=11457

I found a lot of sites w/the rtr cheaper but they were all out of stock. Horizon has the item listed as discontinued.

Good luck and whatever your choice just glad to have another racer out there. Enjoy.

I have heard a few rumors about the 8ight rtr, they might be coming out with a 2.0 rtr soon... But it was just a rumor... That being said the 2.0 rtr will have a tuned GRP .21 and come with a set of losi/grp tires. IDK about radio/servo combination. But I am sure it will be an expensive rtr if ya know what I mean? $650 for the buggy and $400 motor...
