I have a new T Maxx that I am having problems with.

The engine became worn to the point that it lost compression and needed a new piston and sleeve installed before I finished the first gallon of nitro.

I think the damage occured because of an air leak in the carb. and a piece of a glow plug that fell into the engine.

I replaced the piston and sleeve and performed the break in. On the fifth tank the engine quit running so I opened it up and found the rod was broken and the piston was damaged.

I did not replace the rod the first time. Do you think it was already weakened from the lean condition from the carb? Should I get a new rod, piston, and sleeve or just get a new engine? I am having hell with this thing.

Wearing out that quickly is usually running too lean. If its an air leak, engine prob wouldn't run right - either die all the time or bog badly. Air leak usually causes tuning fits. I had one with a FR18 - wouldn't run unless igniter was attached, soon as took it off, engine quit. Was back plate - 1/2 the bp gasket was gone.

I'd go with new engine - TRX engine replacement program. The risk now is debris in the brgs and once you start trying to replace them, might as well replace engine.

These engines have composite carbs and the carb pinch bolt can be tightened down enough to crack carb body. Its real hard to see and catch once it happens.
