Don't buy MP9
I never thought I would say this but DON'T waste your money on the MP9.
Like all new releases it has issues, some Kyosho are fixing but the biggest problem is the front end which they have no plans to fix as they don't think anything is wrong. We have had every model K Car since the 7.5 K1 and have never broken a front arm. We get the MP9 and today front arm no 10 has broken. The hinge pin doesn't bend and there is no other damage to the car which suggests the arms are weak as. I could go on about the efforts I have made to communicate the issue to Kyosho suffice to say it has been a waste of time. Once again I say don't buy the Buggy as you will regret it. not sure how you have your car setup but i have been running my mp9 and i have about 7 gallons through it and have never changed or broke a front arm. And i race at least once a week sometimes more. With every car out there you can break things, I think that it is unfair to single out the mp9, if you are unhappy with the car fine, just get another brand and move on. I am tired of hearing about the small flaws that the new buggy has and i know that i would not hear anything about it, if the car did not have the price tag that it does. It is a big improvement over the wc and i for one am very happy with the car and the support from kyosho.

I've been running the MP9 since it was released and haven't any breakages and quite a bit of that has been running in very cold conditions.... A friend has broken 2 arms - one was hitting a dead car at full throttle and was a massive impact which would have broken most cars. The other was a bad landing on a big jump (nose first and caught the front arm on the wooden sides that were used to retain the dirt and stop cars shooting off the side of the jumps).
If you aren't happy with it, sell it and move on and moan about something else.... No complaints about the MP9 here.....although would be nice if it was a little cheaper ;) |
I must say that is why i've never owned a K car. The price is so fricken high it's ridiculous. There are plenty of other buggies that are just as competitive as the K cars are and are several hundred dollars cheaper. I think that what Kyosho does is wrong. They price thier buggies really high because, like Tamiya, they have a very strong group of customers that are VERY loyal to them and will pay the high price just because they only run Kyosho stuff. Also, from what i've heard, every since Kyosho switched US importers their customer and parts support sucks!

Competition should drive the price down, but in K's case their price has gone up. What exactly does the MP9 have that the Losi, Mugen, XRAY, and Team AE don't have? Well for some folks if they pay more it has to be better. More power to you in that case.

I totally agree with the first part of your post, Chim. However, this part that I'm quoting... you don't REALLY believe this, do you? I will agree the MP9 has and still is, and likely always will take a lot of flak for it's price. But to say people complain of it's so called faults because of the price is simply wrong. Take the D8 as a perfect example. There were posts all throughout their threads about the supposed weak CVDs. How about Losi? The net was insane with rampant posts regarding throttle servos. The 8T 2.0 is getting a lot of flak due to supposedly being shoddily assembled. Bottom line, the cost is not why people complain. People will find a reason to complain no matter how perfect anything is. :) |
when started racing 1/8 2004, all i ran or cared about was KYOSHO, 7.5, KANAI, sp1, sp2, WC... then i had losi8= junk, rc8=junk... now-XRAY808... i'll never switch to anything else... trust me, the way I drive i SHOULD be breaking shit left & right... but, nearly 10 gallons, no breakage... just a little wear in the crosspins in the driveshafts, but thats expected... i don't think you could ever break the arms on the 808... i did replace them b/c they started to warp a little, but that's much better than (10) DNF'S

I'm 24, my first K car was 12 years when i was 12. I put all my economy in a so called True racing car. it's was a waste of money I was so frustrated (screw where almost impossible to screw in some plastic, quality of the screw was awful as well) Spring for shocks were so poorly matched, the silicon oil was extremly rare and expensive... the one provided was yellow like the oil of dad's car. And Not a single ball bearing inside the kit.
There stickers of winning championship on there box is a vestige of the past. Every time I try do understand I only saw that nasty strategy of Kyosho that build RC car build with obvious defect only on purpose to sell option parts and revised kits at price of gold. Tell me how many year it take before Kyosho include CNC steering parts and shocks tower in there kits. In fact thanks to competitor which put pressure an create kit that don't really need any option out of the box to work properly. |
I like the car alot but i do have to say whats up with the price? No Carbon Fiber but it still is light as hell. I just would like to be able to buy 1 if I wanted to. But I cant flat out because of the price. I have always liked their stuff and there is cars or brands that I dislike.

Well I bought an MP9 this year and I am in the process of building it. I am coming from a Hyper 8 and I think that I will have the grand comparison in my opinion if the high end car is really worth it.
When I got my Hyper 8 I was having issues breaking front hub carriers:flaming:over and over again. I am sure I was feeling like Dales Dad. I was online and trying to find out if other people were having these issues but very few people had this issue. I was frustrated, unhappy and pretty pissed even though I didn't spend high dollars like Dales Dad. I ended up using another brands hub carrier and since that time I have only broke one. That was two years ago. I can't comment yet weather I like the MP9 or not but the build is going very well. I have one last thing that I have noticed in a comparison of plastics. The arms on my Hyper were very soft and pliable as well as most of the other plastic pieces that came with the kit. The arms and plastics on the MP9 seem much more firm and not very pliable;)or should I say much harder. This could be why people are having issues.(Dales dad have you tried boiling any of your arms yet????? Just curious because if I have the same issue as yourself the first thing I will do is boil a full set of arms:nod: If you have let me know through PM if you would rather not post again |
