Just so you guys now a 2s lipo will charge up to 8.40v.
That said, for the folks who are running without a reg, how long are your servos lasting? Are you finding the need to replace them more frequently?
I hooked up the castle BEC, and to be honest its a bit of a hassle. I may just not run it.

I've run my cars on NiMH and LiPo w/ regulator. I had some problems with the regulator at first, until I finally figured out it was overheating. Once I moved it outside the radio box and put an extra heatsink on it, my problems vanished.
What I liked about running regulated power was that the car responded exactly the same through a long main. I had some trouble with servos slowing down after about 25 minutes when I first ran NiMH packs.
Unfortunately, I've puffed up both of my LiPo packs now, and the RC8 likes to have more weight up front, so I'm back to NiMH. So, like others have said, it's really yin and yang.

After fiddling around with a BEC over the past couple nights I've decided not to use it for the following reasons.
1. Too many wires too little space
2. Weird glitching at anything over 6v
3. No charging through the swtich, the battery would have to be completely removed from the truck everytime, even on race days..... Refer back to #1
4. If my servo's do fail I'll just buy the HV versions and be done with it.

There has been some great points and rebuttals to all of this. However, I prefer to run regulators on my equipment. For the simple reason I personally know an individual that ran the ACE servos unregulated with the Airtronics system and the car took off and fried a servo and the motor after about 5minutes of runtime. To me its not worth it.
I run a protek 6.2v regulator with my Jr 9100s servo on both s/t. Great power and awesome speed. However I have a 7v regulator to run with my Hitech 5955TG servos as backups. Which at 7v I am not sure what anyone else needs for power!lol
Another thing that I did was I DO NOT run a switch. This could possibly be a reason for the regulator failures. Just a thought.

I am new to nitro and was wanting some help on what the numbers on the batteries mean? How does one lipo for $20 compare to another for 50? What is the balancing lead mean? What kind of charger should I buy?
I have read on this topic that some are deciding not to run a regulator but, for those that do run a regulator what do you look for to determine whether the regulator is good or bad?

7.2 is not the full voltage of a 2 cell...its 8.4.....there are guys running their Faast units unregulated...and you Do NOT need the HV version's to run unregulated.....Hitec tech's have stated the 7955 is 100% lipo ready...the 5955's have also proven 2 cell worthy.

Pretty much, only run a regulator if you've got servos that aren't rated for it, and have no history of working at that voltage... Unless you wanna be the lucky gambler 
I'm tempted to take my CCBEC out of my truggy and go unregulated... Going to do some reading up on my throttle servo first
