Best Starter Box?

My old Duratrax metal blue box is about done. Who makes a box for 1/8 scale with a good, strong motor? Stick packs or gel cell. Although I'll be helping it with a heat gun I have some race engines to break in soon so I'm going to need a strong starter box. Thanks for your input.

Thats right, Mugen. Put a Lipo in it and it's light as air, and has plenty of ponies to spin anything over.

the ofna truggy box is the best i have seen.. very very strong..

I like the idea of the Mugen w/lipo, but not the extra $ it would cost to buy the lipo and a charger. I don't mind a little extra weight if some stick packs or a gel cell would still make it a strong box? And the OFNA box, what kind of battery have you used? Thanks guys

Stick packs work well, you just charge them more frequantly. I use 2000 Mah stick packs in my Mugen and they work just fine.

I have heard good things about the OFNA box at the lhs. Does it take a gel cell 12V or stick packs?

topcat-lll 11-30-2008 06:51 PM

The Ofna chrome top hands down! (gigantic heavyduty motor, no belts)

Allumina 11-30-2008 06:54 PM

Ofna truggy box with lipo---best setup I have ever used.

Is this truggy box the one with 2 motors? Found the OFNA and Mugens on Towers web site. The OFNA silver is less complex than the rest but bulkier, don't know that that will matter. It'll be heavier with a 12V gel cell. The truggy box is compact and light but a bit complex with dual motors. Anyone know how the 2 compare as far as torque? Havn't ruled out the Mugens either. Thanks for all the input

here is the ofna box, it has 2- 775 motor and can be used with gelcell, 2 stick pac or lipo. i use mine with a lipo, if u get 2 stick pacs good ones that will cost the same as a lipo. nitro house has the box for 85 but here is the link to amain

Mugen starter box=smallest & lightest, more placement options for oddball cars like losi buggy.I have 2 & one has been put through hell & more & only changed a wheel on it once in the last 5yrs I currently run 2 4600 packs will start new motor without heat.

Ofna truggy box=slightly larger & slightly heavier.Have never seen problems with either. The Ofna box is relativly new on the scene though. Before everybody & their brother got sponsered everyone used the mugen box. I would be happy with either box if I didnt have too much stuff & not enough room. Find people at your track that you can verify have been around a few years(a year racing is not long enough to make enough mistakes that gain you knowlege) & ask them what to use. Or flip a coin.
