Default MTR Switches on LPR wheels

Ok, here's the deal......I have a very nice set of older Switches that were mounted on MTR wheels and I'm going to resurrect them by mounting them on LPR wheels. I've heard that you have to cut the bead (or at least some of it) off in order to mount MTR tires on LPR wheels. I dismounted them and trial mounted them with foams (Bomb Ones) on the LPR wheels and they fit fine.......pretty much like they were made for those wheels. My question is, does anyone have any experience/knowledge of mounting MTR tires on LPR wheels and do I actually have to cut the bead to mount them? If I do have to cut the bead, is it for fitment or is it for performance of the tire? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have lots of experience with this. you don't have to cut them but it is a much better way of doing it. on the switches all you have to do is take a small pair of scissors(preferably small body scissors) and cut around the first molding line on the inside of the tires. Just turn them inside out and cut around the line. its very easy as long as you are patient. if you just mount them without cutting them they will be VERY wide. You can also mount them without cutting them by mounting them on the inner side of the channel in the rim. in other words not in the channel but on the other side of it. if you mount them like that you wiull have to glue them there and roll the edge of the tire over and glue it to the outer edge of the rim. you have to use lots of gluing bands for this. its better and easier just to cut them. plus you save quite a bit of weight with all the rubber you cut off.

Jamminkrazy,
I did notice when I had them mocked up that they were WIDE! I didn't think that was necessarily a bad thing.......I guess it is though?
Just to be clear, what I am calling the 'bead' is that molded part of the tire that is a thick 'block' (if you will) that sits down in the outer channel of the wheel. I need to remove that hole thing and just glue the tire down in that channel once it's removed? When I turn the tire inside out and look for a molding line, it seems like it is pretty far in from the edge. Sorry for so many questions, I just don't want to waste these tires by cutting them incorrectly. If you (or anyone), has any pics of where to cut, that would make my day.
Thanks again!

what I did was set the MTR on the table...set the LPR wheel on top of it...using a sharpie I traced the wheel diameter onto the tire.

Make a small cut to just short of the sharpie line...maybe like a 1/4" short....flip the tire inside out...and you will see the mold ring that Jammin is talking about on the inside of the tire. Then just cut along that mold ring.

The ONLY downside I found to doing this mtr/lpr thing is you are cutting off the gluing bead basically so you have to do a real good glue job to keep them set...other than that it worked great.

I was thinking that if the glueing bead was completely cut off that it didn't leave much 'meat' to glue back in the wheel.............I guess that's just the nature of the beast in doing this deal though eh?
I messed up and bought a set of NON-clay compound switches and they are TERRIBLE for the tracks I race on........that's why I'm trying to salvage my old switches........I guess I'll just try it, they aren't doing me any good sitting at home not mounted! lol
Thanks for the info guys!
