I am doing a little market research and looking for some input. If money was no object for the investor/owner, what features/services would you want to see at the ULTIMATE 1/8 scale indoor off road track? I am looking to understand what racers/bashers want in terms of:

track size
pitting space/accommodations - lights, compressors, TV's etc, electricity, climate control.
on site hobby shop
food concessions
how much would you pay to race/practice...i.e., if it was a WORLD CLASS facility, is $20 bucks too much for practice vs say $10 bucks. Be honest and realistic. Keep in mind we aren't talking about racing in a barn, but imagine the nicest indoor 1/8 facility ever built.

Bottom line, if you are designing a 1/8 indoor off road track to be the nicest and best facility ever built, what would be in it?

Tons of pit tables and stools
Several tv's with live streaming results from all qualifiers and mains
Bathrooms that have more than one stall
Internet access at several points
A lounge area for those that want a quiet area to chat with other racers
DEDICATED PAID turn marshalls so racers can focus on racing and repairs
On site hobby shop that carries all brands and not just what the owner races
Heat and A/C of course
Nice ventilation system so your not choking on fumes and seeing a fog
Overhead Air piping with access points at several locations in the pit area
Multiple sinks with cleaning tubs and brushes

I will probably think of more but that's good for starters....

If somone were to build a world class facility and charge a higher fee to race it would draw in more pro's at the expense of newbies not coming as much. At least that's what I have heard before. The people that don't have sponsors and can't afford every new part sometimes are scraping to just be able to pay a small race fee. It's a tradeoff no matter what I think. You win in some areas and lose some in other spots.

-good heating and cooling.
-good ventilation
-an inclosed drivers stand with heating and cooling
-medium sized track
-maybe some wooden jumps/wall climb feature
-elevated pit land
-starting area by pit lane
-compressors in the pits
-maybe some sort of cleaning station with like a hose to clean car and a bucket for tires
-food
-large inclosed work area( like with tables and chairs-electricity for working and basically pit space)
-monitors by pit lane and in the working area(to display the race info)

just some ideas here.

Are you Oak Park, IL. If so go out to LeisureHoursRaceway in Joliet. With 480 posts you probably have been there. Bernie may or may not give you his 2cents. Their facility is really nice except the area it is located (hard to get to).

To start clean restrooms and showers, round the clock. Also within min. off hotels, food and Wal-mart. my likes to go with to the track. I went to the S.I.C and the rest rooms were not that clean and was not close to any food joints. But the track was awesome! Very well though out at least I think so anyway. Ill be willing to pay 20 every other week and have control practice for beginners, and pros's like every 20 to 30 mins, have like a show and tell night for newcomers and old racers. Videos of old races from years back.

depends on what you want to race there I think...a big track is fine for buggies and truggies...but the 1/10 scales are getting really popular around here...mostly electric 10th scales...and we find that the tracks we built for truggy racing are just way too big for the little electrics.

The most recent Delta RC indoor track seems to work great for all three...it's a little tight for the truggies but the buggies and 10th scale electrics love it. I will get the size for you tomorrow just so you have it. I'm guessing it's around 60-70 deep and maybe 100-120 wide.

1. VENTILATION...this is a must so you are not racing while it looks foggy.

2. Monitors..... Would like to see them by the pit lane so during the mains you
could turn around and see how much time is left and how your
driver is doing.

3. Track size.... I think a happy medium would be great here. One thing I
would like to see though is not a super high bite track. Make
it more like an outdoor track that will groove well.

4 Pit Space...... This is something that can not be overlooked. You really
need to have quite a bit of room for some people as they
race two classes.

This is just some of the basic things that I would say would make a great facility. As far as the price to practice/race goes, I don't think some would have a problem paying it but the mass majority would.

I would say ideally if money was no object you would want the track and pit spaces to be in seperate sections of the building. Pit space where there is to be no running nitro engines, and then the track in it's own seperate well ventilated room.

How far does the money go? Hot chicks turn marshalling? Really though, I think a couple of paid turn marshals on practice days. Even if you have to wait a few seconds it is better than having to go get your own car. Food, ventilation, a climate controlled pit area seperate from the race area. Someone in the pit area at least trying to help the newbs. I would like to see someone try one of those projectors on the back wall - opposite of the driver's stand. I think this would make the race feedback easy for all to see, instead of having 20 tvs.

i would say this.

#1 VENTILATION

#2 have the pits in a sperate room. keeps its quiet and no smell

#3 good dirt

#4 well maintained. like if a pipe comes up fix it.

#5 a really good sound system for the anouncer

those are my top 5. i think that 100x150 would be cool.
