Trying to get an 8ight setup for around $500
So it looks liek I might take the jump to a 1/8 buggy. Im gonna get an 8ight. Problem is is that I dont want to spend to much over $500 but if makes that much of a difference I dont mind spending a little more. I was thinking of getting a 8ight roller, $200, RB .21 engine, Hitec servo (150+torque, .15- speed) undecided on pipe, used starter box (I have batteries), and Crimefighters or Bowties M2 tires, $60. So it doesnt look like it is gonna work out as far as price. I was thinking of getting a used servo and if Im really low on money used engine but im trying to stay new with that. I am not new to nitro as I had a xxx-nt but I got it used and the previous owner didnt know anything about it and I race electric 1/10 truck. Im going to be racing at Thunder Alley rc raceway. thanks alot!!!

This is a good start with solid radio, tires, servos, etc. With time you could add a few bucks and upgrade a little bit. If you have a radio you could still sell the inclded one on ebay for some return.
I would also give those guys a call on monday. I think the losi 2.0 roller is $599 and with coupons or a offer via phone you may can come out good.
I think it's almost always better to save and start new and fresh. You will have good support with the Losi team always being at Thunder Alley or Revelations!

thanks for the responses! I have been reading threads the past couple of days on the 8ight and it seems like the RTR uses cheaper material for the chassis, shock towers, the kit has a better clutch, the RTR has grease filled diffs, and the RTR has plastic shocks (bottoms/ends?) And alot of people say they just upgraded to the kits parts and it was very costly. The thing I dont want to happen is bend a chassis or something and pay $80 for the kit one.
With all that, I am still very instrested in the 8ight RTR. Im saving up now and probably gonna get it in a couple months. Im thinking about keeping both my radios so I could use the xr2i (bascially the dx2.0 w/o DSM) for my xxx-t and the dx2 for the 8ight if I get the RTR. I also noticed that the RTR comes with some pretty low torque servos. As a matter of fact those servos came on my xxx-nt gas truck! So I was thinking of buying a good servo used and switching the steering servo onto throttle and buy a steering servo since all my servos are around 90oz torque.
Also are 1/8 buggies picky with tires? Like if 1 tire isnt good the buggy is on ice like 1/10? Because if I go the RTR route I could get a used one for around $300 and I could buy tires, upgrade, servos, etc.

With my xxx-nt and xxx-t I always had to babby the throttle. I came to the track that i will be running at a couple times with my xxx-t mf2 and the buggies destroyed my truck..literally...Had to buy a new body and had some broken parts. I have never driven a 4wd before.

I would try to save for this roller:

When you are ready the price may be down some on them. Depending on what you want I'll suggest a few good things to go with it that are not "high priced".

It sounds like you may have some stuff you need. What radio did you have? Maybe you can get by with just a reciever for your radio.
You also said you have some decent servos. Use one of those in the throttle and this in the Steering:
http://www.carolinasrc.com/Webstore/...idproduct=1690
Although there are many other good servos. Check into the ace 1015 as well.
You willl also need a starter box.
http://www.carolinasrc.com/Webstore/...idproduct=4474
No alighnment needed and works buggy and truggy. You will need two cheap 7.2 volt packs and you probably have a charger. It will be hard to be cheaper than $500 and do it right the first time. Save yourself some troubles and save up and do it correct.

I talked to someone about this and they said to just get a 8ight 1.0 roller now because everyone is getting the 2.0. if I wait till I get the money for everything there wont be any kits left. I have a couple batteries from electric racing so that is not a problem. I have THIS radio/receiver. Is the RB .21 engien I linked good? That GRP one is a little expensive. I just want to get a halfway decent setup and upgrade as I get more money. If I save up for the setup you suggested I probably wont have the money for another year!

anybody?

the s3 is a fine engine as long as you arent going to be running it on a big track......if the track is large and wide open id go with a differnt engine like a go-tech or new dynamite.....but if the track is kinda small the rb is the better engine.....
