Avid VS Carbon fiber brake disks
Anyone tried both and has a "review"?

I prefer the avid phenolics as the material lasts a long time with very minimal fading. I have smoked a set of fiber brake disks and it wasnt cool, in fact I saw a set catch fire once because of the heat. Granted they werent set right but i prefer phenolic material over any fiber disk any day

I've been using Avid brakes for a whole season and it has yet to fail me. I just sand the surface after two races and they're good to go. No brake fade whatsoever! I will never run any other brake disks other then Avid, plus David Joor is a stand up guy to do business with.

I have tried both Avid and other carbon fiber disc's.
Carbon Fiber: The one thing I have to say is the precision that the carbon fiber disc is milled with has everything to do with its performance. If its not perfectly round and flat, these disc's absolutely suck and will cause inconsistent lockup. I wont name the sucky brand.... However the new Xray XB808 carbon fiber CNC'd disc's are the best brakes I have ever used! I believe they also fit the MBX6. They are thicker so its easier to run my Trinity Spring Things between the pads. Xray just makes the best quality stuff, so its no wonder they got those new disc's right. http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s...c/show-1-2.jpg They are awesome! one thing to remember since you run an 808, using any option brakes requires you to change out the stock shoes with the hardened shoes.

the xray disks dont fit the mugen, but with a little work on the ends they can, also the avids are half the weight of the xray's carbon disks.

ive never tried the carbon fiber disks but ive had a very good experience with AVID brakes in both of my truggys.

Trinity spring things? I assume these are to keep the pads from rubbing on the disc. I was looking to do some sort of mod to do this, where can a guy find these?
