what plug/fuel% are you using? also... do you have the regular evo2 or the edo mod rally version?

TXRC8racer 10-30-2008 09:55 PM

Im running a McCoy MC9 (cold plug) O'Donnell 30% race fuel, Standard plug non turbo, Standard Picco Evo 2 P7R .21 with a JP 3 pipe.

I can not get a handle on this motor, i get good smoke all threw the power band but when i get high RPM it gets real smokey and dies. So im thinking a little rich but my temps are 230 or so and its 80 ambient temp here. I think my problem is that im tunning to temp instead performance. As long temps dont really get over 260 to 270 right? then it starts getting dangerous...
And im not sure what venturi is in the carb but is there any way to tell and do i have to run one?
Thanks Lance

you should add one 0.1mm shim when using 30% fuel with this engine.. also the RB6 and the MC8 plugs run pretty good...

It does have one 0.1mm shim in it and i have been running the MC-9 plugs. Does anyone else on here run this engine and what are ur needle settings?

needle setting's mean Jack from location to location.....picco/jammin needles are like most....flush on the top end....and a turn or so OUT on the bottom.

ps get the turbo head button and you'll see a significant increase in power.

Can u tell me what turbo head button will work and what cooling head will work since mine has a little damage. Picco direct replacement head is 85$. Or all is close to the same?

Trinity Phatt head

the Stock Jammin head is also 80$....so the trinity is the solution....or i guess u could go with those Fugly Chrome one's from Nova.

when I said to add one 0.1mm shim, I was talking to add one extra shim besides whatever was already there from factory... the picco/jammin head button & colling head should be the same size...

D8 10-31-2008 08:18 AM

yes... the Trinity one is great and gives better cooling displacement..

Thanks for the fast responce!! I have never delt with many Picco engines.

What do you recommend on temps or should i just tune for performance, but of course temps over 280 are dangerous. Im using a infared gun with laser pointer and i check the whole glow plug area back and fourth and never one spot and i look for the hottest temp i just don't point on the glow plug it self because it seems its one of the coolest spots inside the head. Is this the correct way of getting temp or should i just point at the plug and will there be hotter temps threw other parts of the engine?

Thanks for the help!!! Im new to the site but likeing it so far!!

Also to add i removed the head button to see what shims there are and it only has one shim and its really thin prolly a .01mm shim do i need more shim for 30% nitro and im also running a McCoy MC9 plug which is a cold plug should i run a MC8 or should i go to a Picco Plug?
