Default are there shims on the diff planetary gears

im trying to put new diffs in my losi 8ight and the the ones i took out of it have shims on the ends of the planetary gear all of them need to know do i have to use them please help thanks

The manual does not specify using shims on the planetary gears.

If I remember correctly the RTR cars came with shims on the planetery gears where as the kit cars did not and I do not know about whats in the roller's diffs. so I'd go ahead and say its safe to run with or without them.

I think you'd be crazy not to put them in. Mine on my Kyosho are pretty thick. I think they are more of a thrust washer than a shim. I don't know how you would be able to see down in the case and feel around for play but now you make me wonder if they sell thinner sets for shimming later when they become worn. If you don't encounter a lot of wheel spin the planetary gears never really move though so they shouldn't be a high wear item.

If your 8ight came with them use them. Only take them back out if things won't spin freely after assembly or the planteary gears won't fit all the way down into the case and mesh with the bigger gear IMO.
