$600+ Buggys perform poorly

Thats good because neither was I, this and I also did not actually read any commentary from Hara to know what he actually said.
To be honest I guess the attachment to the word "stock" depends on what story argument you are trying to push (and we know most forums like this will always be full of all knowing unknowing people ready to argue
). However, if you are already from a racing background the word stock can be stretched quite far
, so this is where alot of the disagreement people are having comes in, they just don't want to be rational with those opinions after
.
I know looking at Haras build, that would fall under minor tweakage to me. Options he took to have the machine setup more to his liking for the track, the only thing to me out of those bounds is having a marginally lighter weight chassis. Then you can look at Tessmans car which was reportedly "box stock" to the definition till the final where he changed one piece on the car (not remembering what it was now).
But blah, that is just my reasoning...lol definately not something to slow down the next all wise poster.

And in that case your "minor tweaking" is kinda like taking stew, in which a whole bunch of stuff has been thrown into the mix, and calling it soup.
Sorta the same thing, but nah, not really.
Or in another sense of perspective, it's sort of like talking about strip clubs --- full nude or semi-nude. Yet when it really comes down to it "they ain't got no freaking clothes on in either establishment."
Now we're just quibbling over bits, and or how many bits qualifies.

What is "every" hopup? Plastic toe blocks and plastic chassis braces?
If "every" hopup means hex headed screws, big bore shocks, fiber brakes, then most buggies come "fully hopped up" as well.
In fact, the D8 comes with aluminum toe plates, would that mean that is more fully equipped than the Kyosho?

Aluminum top plate goes on that list aswell

The point of my post is not to bash any of the cars, just to point out that the Kyosho isn't any more "equipped" than any other buggy. It does come with billet front knuckles, but that doesn't justify the $850 price tag.
Nice edit on your post too

I think you are mistaken. Paul King has stated that they come with plastic toe plates.

still going

I am not saying the D8 has the same quality materials as the Kyosho though. The Kyosho is top notch in the quality department, but "fully optioned" is being played out to justify the price of the kit.

Oh of course.
There's probably at least another 2 weeks worth of yet-to-be-discovered-secret-spy-shot-stuff that hasn't been added to the equation. (pssst - nobody's mentioned the hollow titanium hinge pins or kryptonite wheelweights yet)
My guess, by the time everything's said and done they'll have figured out that the out the door price of Hara's ride will be somewhere in the realm of $2,000 ................... or $99.95 plus tax, tag, dealer prep and other assorted options

I'm betting the other cars in the top 12 had more things done to them than the hotbodies D8 did.

I dont know why Mugen keeps getting dragged up in the price chat here, mugen have brought the 6 out at the same price as the previous car and they are way under the MP9 price and under the Xray as well, they may not be $380 but you do get a lot of car for the extra whether you agree or not is up to you.

Also, I've driven the new Mugen MBX6 (a pro drivers ride), and it was ok. It feels like my 808 but doesn't jump as well and feels heavier on the track. It gets dragged into this thread because its also at the $600.00 level. ...and later that night the pro driver broke THE FRONT ARM! ...not a good sign!
If you want the best "$600 poorly performing buggy" buy the Xray.

Who's car wasn't modify there I bet most wasn't even box stock? 2 of the D8 ran in the final race was box stock. Hara car in most was stock with some lighten parts and stock parts from EVO buggy. There wasn't any aftermarket parts like to change anti-squat, kick-up, rear toe because there aren't any yet. They ran what was in the box they had no tuning option for this.
I'm betting the other cars in the top 12 had more things done to them than the hotbodies D8 did.

Oh yeah, I bet they did too. I also believe in Peter Pan.

I guess that's the thing, what's box-stock to one person and stock to another varies in definition --- but to me it's more about the potential ramifications of the suppostion in clouding the whole picture. Personally I don't think either word should have come up at all in the first place.

Sorta the same thing, but nah, not really.

Now we're just quibbling over bits, and or how many bits qualifies.

I know ehere I come from the running joke is that when you meet up somebody on the road and claim their car is stock that atleast means an intake/header are atleast hiding in there and the car doesnt have its A/C or backseat

In the RC world though....start talking to be about "Mods" when you have altered the dimensions of the vehicle such as wheelbase or chassis length or dramatically changed the suspension geometry beyond the stock equipment was capable of matching before. If significant pieces need to have be changed to different materials, same thing.
This topic itself just so hot because people are hot under the collar like my Xray friend up there that the might of their machines credentials has been challenged on the intarweb.

Hehe as long as we got to bring up strip clubs then we could say it was all for a good purpose

. Heck in Miami stock at the lights usually means the guy has nitrous hiding somewhere with everything run under the manifold.
