What are you using to start your RC8? I want something with plenty of power (overkill is OK with me), and I'd like to power it with a 12v gel cell.

I was thinking about this OFNA "Truggy" box: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/12542

Anyone use this with their RC8?

I've heard mention of people using the Associated box, the Mugen box, and the Truggy one you mention with great success.

I thought about using an Ofna chrome top, but I remember reading somewhere that there are fitment issues? Can anyone add to that?

I have used those boxes and seen a lot... they tend to burn out on the electrical contacts, melt into the plastic and stop working. My one in the UK has been repaired and re-repaired so much it's not even funny. And i don't abuse it, i just use quick bursts...

I use that one in the U.S, heavily. It starts new engines every time, loads of torque and reliable as hell. One heavy duty motor and accepts 12v gel cell. Only thing is it's heavy... but i would rather heavy and reliable and if you put a gel cell in anything it's going to become heavy anyway.

- edit - it is a little tricky for fitment, however a little creativity and it's fine. I use four pegs at the front to keep it in the right place and steady.

I use the chrome top with my RC8. As much as I have liked the chrome top box on other vehicles it sucks for the RC8. At least for me it does. I've tried every way under the sun to set the pegs so that they hold the chassis snug but when I do the peg for the left rear of the car hits the motor and will not let the starter box plate compress like it is supposed to.

I am going to order one of the TKO starter box thingies and put it on my box.

I used the OFNA chrome top all year on my RC8's w/ no problems at all. I put the front pegs at the neck of the chassis and the rears sit under the back of the chassis. No issues at all. Best box for the car in my opinion.

I use the mugen box on my rc8. I use two old gp3300 packs. I got tired of dealing with the gel cells. Used em for years but I now like stick packs (lipo would be even better!) as they are more powerful and lighter.

I had the ofna blue box for my rc8. The box itself is a great unit. But it is big, bulky, and heavy. So I finally sold it and got the mugen.

I've heard many good things about the ofna truggy box also. But I've not seen one myself.

I don't even use rear pegs on my box. Nice and quick that way. But for new engines ya probably want pegs so you can line it up peeerfect and square every time until it's broken in.

I jammed the internals from the OFNA truggy box into my Losi 8ight box and that thing is awesome. No more issues at all. Best 100 bucks I spent this year.

The blue OFNA box is the bomb. I use that on my RC8 with a gell and it turns anything over. I have used it on two brand new motors so far. Makes breaking in an engine much easier.

As for the chrome top, my buddy has one of those and it seems to work well for him too. I don't think you will go wrong with either one.

+ a trillion on the truggy box, best damn box ever. I dont do Lipo, 12v gelcell was enough make a brand new ws7 turbo l2g look worn out, good enough for me!

The Ofna Truggy box works great for me! Even using two cheap stick packs for power. No problems encountered so far!
