Engine choice question

Can someone explain the different power when going from an engine with relatively few ports (3) to one with more (8). I'm looking for an engine to run on a small indoor track that requires alot of torque. Any recommendations would be appriciated, I'm leaning towards Novarossi.
Thx,
G

3-5 port motors are perfect for small tracks with short run-ups. An 8 port would just be too much. Novarossi motors have the best 5 ports in the industry. You can't go wrong with either the P5XS or the Plus 21-5K. They're easy to tune and a powerhouse in every range. They last a heck of a long time too.

This is just the question I have been wanting to get answered. The local track is a small outdoor track and I was wondering if I should go with a 3 port or 5 port motor?
What about RB motors (S3 or S5) or the Odonnel Super sport?

So in general:
Fewer ports = more torque?
More ports = more top end?

3 ports are good on bottom, but dont have much top end, you can get a 5 port and put a pipe for bottom end and it will be strong on bottom and top end, or just get a vspec and you will have strong bottom and top and good fuel economy, i run a modified 3 port novarossi for back up, its got plenty of power for the jumps and tight areas it does give up some on the straight, but races are not won on the straight in most cases, i personally like running the speeds, but if your on a budget its hard to beat a vspec or 3 port novarossi

Vspec is a 3 port

I have always had a great run with the Novarossi P5XS with the 86 pipe and long smooth header. Running against a vspec never worried me. Plus it lasts way much longer than a vspec as well.

Thanks for the info guys. As my questions in this quote imply, I'm lookling for a general conversation about numbers of ports in engines, not a "my engine's best" conversation.

Got your pm...good choice of engine by the way. :)

changing the pipe on my vspec takes it from a torque motor to a rever.
the vspec is a 3 port kinda? it has some other port things but we can get into that later
i have owned the P5X that is a great motor. The P5X is a better choice than the 21 5K for a short track.
not that the P5X lacks top or the 21 5k lacks bottom but I feel the p5 is a better balanced motor for indoors or short tracks
If your set on a nova get a nova they are solid mills.
IF NOT?
look at the vspec and a jp3 or jp4 pipe.
I have owned both I prefer the vspec over the nova but thats all personal preference.
