I don't know if I'd call the idea laughable necessarily. Their touring car kits are up there in terms of competitiveness, the electric buggy too, and their prices are waaaaay up there

The 801XT is probably a respectable performer, but it's allegedly almost a whole POUND heavier than most truggies, and while it has one or two innovative features, it has just as many that I find irksome, if not outright annoying, such as the fact that the diff cases are complex "cages" that require considerably more wrenching to access, or the fact that the wheel hex pin is actually inboard of the hex, and far more likely to fall out while it's running.

I do appreciate Tamiya's innovativeness, but sometimes I think they do things differently just for its own sake, sometimes to the detriment of the end user (the AVANTE remains permantly etched into my memory.) Who knows, maybe the buggy will address some of these shortcomings.
