Default Starter Boxes

Has anyone made their own starter box, just for the hell of it?

Back in the day I knew of people who made their own starter boxes. The primary reason to making their own was that they weren't happy with the power of the motors. That isn't a problem today with the boxes you can buy.

I did it twice.
Once i used a fan motor from a 1:1 car and adapted a wheel directly on it...it was very powerful but kind of heavy and ugly.
The second time i tried it with one of those airplane hand held starters.I bolted it on a platform and put the wheel on it.
It was OK but burned up after 5-10 starts.(it couldn't stand the amps from the 1:1 battery when stalled).

Then i got a true starter box and never looked back!!!!!!!
