Team Orion Wasp CRF REV 21
#3
I don't know a lot about the "CRF REV" version.... however a freind of mine has a wasp 21 (silver head) in his M8 ( same buggy that i run) and it is every bit as quick as my OS Speed in a straight line and has a bit more punch down low, to the point where i beat him because my speed is less uncontrolable from take off... if you want torque (eg. truggy or just brutal acceleration in buggy) The wasp line of engines are up there with the big guns... IMO!

Definitely interested in these engines and heard a lot of success stories from pros in Europe using them. Anybody tried this badboy yet??

I have a little less than 1/2 gallon through the crf rev. so basically I've been breaking it in and getting it tuned.
This engine has a sick design, angled crank, nikasil plated sleeve...some unique features to name a few.
I really can't comment on the performance yet, but I can say that it was the easiest engine to turn over by far. According to the articles I've read about these engines, because of the nikasil plating, which is suppose to be extremely thin compared to chrome, the tolerences in the engine are a lot smaller than "normal" engines. Therefore there is very little taper at the top of the sleeve. The design doesn't require the pinch a convential design does. It's the only engine I've ever had that just fired right up, Break in was a breeze.
Also, the Nikasil is suppose to be pourous, which is suppose to allow castor and lubricant to soak into the sleeve and provide better lubrication for the engine
I believe it's using a Picco crank case and carb, I've had no experiences with the Picco carb, but it seems like it's very sensitve. The bottom end likes to be run lean, and if I was a little rich or a little lean the engine wouldn't idle.
And speaking of Idle, it seems like it likes to be higher than other engines. Anybody with opinions on the Picco? Can somebody confirm my thoughts?
As I get more fuel through it I'll keep ya posted, but right now I'm very excited about this engine!
amain hobbies carries them as well, I think it's easy to get, my LHS had no problem getting one for me

I have been running the older version for the last year and a half with great results. get over 10 mins to a tank (un modded engine to boot) and eat up ws7 3's and shit out v-specs ALL day long great engines by far my favorite the new version will def. be in my car once all my older ones are wore out

Picco carbs tend to leak when they get heat soaked, the seam between the composite body and metal end bell tends to leak when the materials get warm... Simple fix and it makes a world of difference..

I ran one heat race last night then we got rained out, and I'm very impressed with the engine, lot's of bottom end but very smooth like a GRP, so far so good!
