700 dollars and no threads?????
Hey all,
I recently purchased a mugen mbx5-R and im really upset that theres no threaded shocks?:cry: I have a 200 dollar recoil that even has threaded shocks? Anyone know of a make or conversion for the mugen to get some threded shocks???? :weird: tim |
I feel the opposite way. I hate threaded shocks. Loosen a collar, slide the collar, tighten, done. My xxx-nt's have threaded shock bodies and I wish they didn't.
|
you paid a little too much for your kit but i think if you would just run the mugen shocks you will be very happy with them. done lots of shocks and those are the best i've ever seen. with the threaded on lower caps, blowing a seal wont happen, the orings lasted me all winter and they dont leak, the oil stays clean as long as the shock boot is not torn. i've been running the jammin THREAded shocks just because of the larger bore and last weekend they came off and the stock ones went back on. i've been getting way too much shock fade with the big bores. just my 2 cents but if you take the mugen shocks off it would be a waste of money that would be better spent on tires.

I am not going to say I dont like threaded bodies but threaded are harder to set exactly the same unless you have a digital caliper.
|
yep and i marked my jammins with a drimmel and the collars do move in a main
|
700 dollars and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!
you could try the jammin shocks, you just neet the standooffs as well. |

hey allan42r, if you get an extra set of collers and put them above the other ones and then tighten them down once you make your adjustments then they will not move one bit, they act as a lock nut
|
Use the Mugen long springs and you hardly need any spacer anyways. Threaded shocks are not the greatest thing since sliced bread, I have a Losi 8 w/ threaded big bores and a Mugen, I like the ones on my MBX5R better:nod:
|
the jammins will be sold this weekend didnt care for them
|
never had an issue with my mugen shocks. the spacers stay put and are exact
|
okay guys, ill stick with the non threaded, i guess im just used to cars like the b4 n recoil that you are looked down upon unless you have threaded shocks.
Any word on where i can find spacers, or are they universal?:confused: |

Maybe you should research products more before you purchase them?
|
i love the jammin bb.. i havent noticed any shock fade in the mains>
|
for a 10th tourer where getting the tweak set up is important then threaded shocks are quite useful, for 8th offroad its not so critical really and threaded are just a sales ploy when the manufacturer could put more useful items in the kit like cnc milled towers, ally rear hubs, mutliple toe plates, ally chassis braces, ti turnbuckles, cf where needed, 1 piece ally motor mount etc people always mention the price of the mugen comared to other brands but you always have to look at whats included in the kit.

Threaded Shocks for off road racing ?? No way..... the dirts will stick into the threads and rubber o-ring. No way you can turn the limiter when all get dirty.
Use C clips, it simple design suitable for off road. |
did you check the box for the cheese to go with that whine?

dirt in the threads? wow never had a problem turning my adjusters
|
Threaded shocks are a pain, just give me plastic spacers, clip, unclip, done.
Easy and painless, no need to count how many turns you took out, ect... |
a Recoil is a 1/14th scale mini touring car that we race up here in the sticks.
David Spashett actually put his name to it. this may sound wierd, however i noticed the shocks (sorry dampers:rolleyes:) were threaded already? is this an upgrade that i didnt know about or are they just threaded for giggles and you know what? |

shocks
Hi really like my xray with shock clips, is quicker, only down side, if you break a shock shaft, say bye bye to you spacers.

i guess i must be some sort of super driver beating people with threaded shock bodies in electric truck classes and in nitro buggy..... NOT but that is how logical the argument is here.:p
|
to make this post even more interesting, why dont we bring up the whole direct solder or plugs debate :lol::weird:
