Default Spring or Hose

I have an 8ight-t and it comes with hose on the brake linkage. I would think a stiff spring would provide better consistent feel and braking power with less stress to the servo. What do you guys think? Is this a mod guys do?

Also, do you guys add springs to keep the pads separate?
