Default Diff Gears

Guys,

I have been running the mp9 since its inception...if you notice the spider gears are aluminum and not steel like most other manufacturers. Since they are aluminum, you will get a break in period where they will wear in. And you will notice metal in your diff oil. I promise you will never strip a gear set....I kept my original cars spider gears in there for over a year...you will be fine. Just drive it....

+1 Between my Evo and my TKI3 a little chipping appears to be normal. Having said that, they diff smoothly. Had I not opened the diffs to change fluid, I'd never have known. Clean 'em, put 'em back in, no issues. It's really not even a concern. BTW, my EVO has brushless power... far more torque in that than any clutched nitro engine I've ever seen.

But, you have to believe in what you drive. If you have doubt in the product, then by all means switch. I am just trying to share that you will always hear stuff (Not that it is not true), but that does not mean it is the norm.

+1

I've run approx. 9 gal through my TKI3 and the diffs have been flawless.

I've never boiled any parts and I've been running the plastic front hub carriers that came in the kit the entire time with zero failures.

Sometimes my drivetrain spins so free when sitting on a stand that it almost seems motorized.

Anyone converted their MP9 TKI 3 into electric? Thinking of getting the A Spec and simply converting over so I have two classes to race.

+1 I have never had a dnf from failing diff gears and the chipping is only a indication that at some time the diff or driveline has taken a hit.

And its true that you only find out about chipped gears upon teardown. For the cost just change out the gears if you see a problem.

I run my diffs for quite a few race days between rebuilds and quite often I only rebuild if there are leaks or rough bearings. I keep a selection of spare diffs with me all made up so when I need to do setup changes its just a few minutes work at the track.

I am pretty sure the mp9e has been discontinued, and the tki3 e does not seem available to buy in the UK. So I thought the A spec and a quick conversion seemed the best approach.

From the pictures it looks exactly the same the TKI3, so all you need is the bits for the conversion to electric and I could run the same buggy all year (and screw buying another kit!).
