The only shock sets that came with the taller shock caps are the older smooth body velvet shocks. The new threaded bodies all use the short caps. Honestly, unless you're running the outer holes in your arms, they really aren't necessary, and you'd be hard pressed to notice any tangible difference in lap times on track with them. More droop = longer shock shafts required = more up-travel = need room for piston to go at full compression.

I don't mean to imply you'd need to purchase longer shock shafts to achieve more droop, just that you'd need to unscrew the shock end some to lengthen the shock stroke.

My guess is the short caps were included on the threaded shocks to compensate for the extra thickness of the threaded adjuster, so the spring pressures and handling characteristics remain the same. Basically so the pre-load and ride height is the same with the threaded adjusters all the way at the top as the non-threaded shocks without any pre-load spacers.

You can always browse the parts lists at Kyosho.com and it shows exactly which models come with the KYOIF470-02 (short cap) or the KYOIF346-02 (taller cap).

As Sean mentioned ... the TKI2 and TKI3 definitely included the KYOIF470-02 shock caps.

Seems like an insane waste of money for something that I could get at a local hardware store for 1/4 of the price.

Very true, but the compartments are exactly as rc specific as Kyosho. I wonder who private labels this for Kyosho?

Yeah, that makes perfect sense Steve.

Dude, that's the same thing people use as an argument to not buy an MP9...c'mon, it's Kyosho, you know it's going to be super sick and of the highest quality. I've actually been eyeing it for some time and might get it just because I've never seen anyone with one.

Kyosho boxes put Plano to shame, they definitely are not Plano. I've done a lot of digging because some were out of stock at Kyosho America for a while and I was impatient, but I couldn't find the same ones anywhere.

The only thing I would buy outside of the kit is 1.3x8 straight hole pistons. You need two packs (2 pistons in each pack, IF347-138). And maybe some additional springs like orange f/r, grey fronts, green and/or yellow rears - you want the 84mm rear springs, the Medium length, 1.4 diameter wire. Other than that, you don't need any aluminum "option parts" because they all come in the box as standard. The only parts that aren't aluminum and have aluminum options, are the upper front hinge pin holder, and the front caster blocks, but both are not needed from the get-go whatsoever. (IFW406 is the hinge pin holder, and IFW412 are the caster blocks). I would suggest building the car box-stock except for the shock pistons, then put Cody's 2010 worlds setup on the car as a base and tune from there.

Looking at a lot of the setup sheets it seems everyone always runs the 8 hole for the camber link on the rear tower, what would going up achieve or change...thanks.
