Default 91 vs 93

New to Kyosho, and I bought a used tki3 with 93's up front and 91's in the rear. It also came with extra sets of 93's if I wanted to use them all around.

Were the 93 universals created so you can tune the amount of plunge, or were people actually having issues with them popping out?

The 93mm universals were built because people were having problems with them coming out of the outdrives in the rear when running a lot of rear toe and then people started running them up front

I had an issue with the fronts popping out. I had the front pop out and jam against the outdrive when the suspension was under full compression (or the driveshaft caused it to fully compressed). First time I'd ever seen it happen.

i had that happen to my STRR EVO. Same concept, under full compression, the left side (as it drives) drive shaft popped out. Had a Kyosho guy tell me to shim my diff more to the left. Looking at it from the front, or from the top, i could tell the diff was shifted more to the right. Very weird, but I've done his fixes and we'll see if it works...

Default try dual rates...

I had it happen to me once during a race and the marshals weren't keen to help disentangle the axle/cup. Lost several laps whilst my mechanic (who is +cough+overweight+cough) retrieved the buggy and resolved it in 2 seconds.

In the end, we realized that the mp9 didn't actually need full lock steering to get the turning effect i wanted. I dialed in about 20-30% (depending on track) dual rate and am still able to drive it comfortably and have it turning on a dime (try other adjustments). Never had a front axle lock up again. Also, full lock steering just causes a lot of tire scrub... Not great if you use super soft tires.

On the other had, if you are still using (and here, I'm not mocking, cos the stock item is ace) the stock plastic front c-hub, check to see if it's bent or worn. if it is, replace it (with the Alu part?). a worn front c-hub does tend to cause the front axles to bind.

New to the MP9 here. In every Kyosho 1/10 kit I have built I replace the flanged washer in the steering rack with a flanged bearing. Is this an option for the TKI3? (See pic.)

Thanks!

I am not trying to stop you to buy the bearing, but do you really think bearing is necessary there? Without bearing it's already the most free steering rack I ever built...
