New 17T clutch bell

The last time I raced 1/8 scale I used fiber clutch shoes. Alumnium had just come out, and I never used them. Is the clutch bell discoloration I am seeing normal for alumnium clutch shoes? I have about 2/3 gallon through the clutch and engine.

Im thinking that this buggy is an rc8 , Mine does the same ,however not as severe, chassis flex can causes this . Not sure in your case though.

If your talking about the marks around the CB, thats from the bell hitting the chassis. Thats an RC8 chassis flex issue. Not sure if the KH extended mounts stop it.

Gotcha. That is what those wear marks on the chassis were when I bought it. I thought the previous owner had a clutch bell bearing go out or something.

Yes it is an RC8.

The RC8 is designed to flex alot so, some sacrifices in other areas of the car will suffer a little .I don't mind the marks , the car hooks..

I'm not worried about if that is the cause. I've had clutch bells turn bluish, but never silver so I was just wondering. Now it makes perfect sence.

Last weekend was my first time driving an RC car in 6 years, let alone on a track. The car is great so far, I cant wait to race it.

Well; glad to see you race in scale too...haha

I think they've answered it for you; but it appears the bell has been lightly rubbed on the outside.

If you've not really experimented with an aluminum clutch setup; just make sure you inspect it for wear every couple of race weekends at the most and stay on top of the bell bearings; as they tend to run a bit hotter.

Yea I am getting back into racing, but more for fun this time. Before I raced every class from 1/10 to 1/5, had a couple sponsors and was fairly deep into it. This time only 1 car in my favorite class. Do you race at all?

I'm on the East coast basically. I run AL/E. GA/SE TN for the most part and do pretty limited traveling.

You should pull the hardware out of the car and grind the matching spot on the chassis. The new Associated chassis are comming this way. Try the KH extended motor mount as well. It will help protect both of your gears and it will also save you on clutch bearings. This will keep you from using your kitchen passes for DNFs at the race track.
