Engines Apart What do you Think?

Hey, so I posted about my engine problem here.
http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=218077

I took it apart to investigate and found some damage to the Piston and Sleeve.
What do you guys think of this damage? Is it enough to be causing my problem?

Time for a new piston and sleeve. Man what got in there. Did any thing fall out?

It scared the heck out of it.:weird:

Looks like the e-clip came out. happened to me once, but didnt look that bad. Also looks like your bushing around the crank is shot.

This happened to a friend of mine too , we determined that it suck in a glow plug wire .Sorry to say but you might have toasted the bearings too.I would check over everything in that motor, clean every part then see what can be saved, then price it out to repair .It may be cheaper to by new .good luck man I hope its just a piston sleeve and rod replacement.

Oh and don't forget to make a key chain out of your old piston and rod.

TRASHED!!!!!!!!!

Looks like the e-clip that holds the wrist pin came up and rubbed up and down the piston and sleeve it has a little e-clip on each side check to make sure you have both.

jesus christ man, what did you do? throw some rocks in there?

Maikaitan 04-27-2008 02:00 AM

looks like everything in there is shot... at the most, you'll be able to save the crank and the case... also the carbs... lots cheaper if you buy a new motor...

you might want to be sure that there's nothing wrong with your air filtration... check the rubber boot for tear as well... looks like some foreign matters went in, or might be some engine parts that comes loose and drop into the cylinder... having the plug filament in the engine will not cause such a great destruction... it might marred the piston and sleeve, but this looks like badly gorged...

buying the rod, piston and sleeve will cost at least half a new motor... i think you should go new...

2 cents...

Considering i can still see the wrist pin clip installed i would say either a glow plug element has been digested but IMO they dont usualy carve the piston like that or a rear bearing has failed and been mulched thru the works. Possible foreign matter.

Looking at that large picture the bottom con rod bushing has had crap go thru it so more than likely the crank pin will be scored too.
Ide nearly bin the whole motor and keep the cooling head and carbi.

Thats a pretty bad one either way.

Would be nearly cheaper to buy a new engine.

Im with Maikaitan on his comments.

If you check the linked thread, he has said that the plug was fine...

Woof, that is definitely the reason it wont start! As suggested, strip the rest of the engine down and replace any parts that have any damage what so ever..... Or you could spend a little more and upgrade to something with a bit more go?

Could be the clip came out of the other side when my came out it went up and down the sleeve 3 times on both times before locking the engine up.

Davidka 04-27-2008 06:59 AM

I am betting a small piece of chrome from your rear bearing got up there.

houston 04-27-2008 07:07 AM

what is this p/s/r set out of ? you either got something in the engine when you took the backplate off and didnt notice or a piece of the alu. block chunked out and got stuck in the intake port . :weird: no matter how it happened , it is more than likely all no good , possibly good crank . possibly a rock

BSchorr 04-27-2008 07:24 AM

PUT IT BACK IN AND RUN IT!!!!
