Not sure about your engine in particular, but most RTR engines are not of the high quality as most race or higher end engines. Its not an uncommon issue though. I personally have seen this also on a RC8 RTR. It snapped the rod on the first try. My LHS got the engine replaced under warranty, so hopefully yours should be covered the same way.
