Fuel Routing question
 

I purchased a new RC8 over the weekend and spend Saturday breaking it in, Sweet buggy and break in went well, nice motor.

Q. I didnt like all the fuel lines all over the place and made a few changes, I ran the fuel input from tank to carb direct, by this I mean, I cut it to about 1 inch and just ran it from point A to point B without running all over the damn chassis and the same with the exhaust to tank line, the car seems to run better and start faster, is it ok that I did this? Is there a reason for all the fuel tubbing, other than increasing run time i guess....?

The longer fuel line is mainly there to provide a small supply of fuel in the event the car is turned over and the tank pickup is no longer submerged in fuel. It also helps reduce the effects of fuel bubbles in the line.

yeah, if you flip your car will die in a few seconds. (if that long)

I had mine like that and noticed that the car would die when flipped over for even more than about 10 seconds, also the engine at full throttle, would not get enough fuel after about 3/4 of the straightaway, and begin to starve.

I then routed the fuel line down beside the pipe, over the front and to the carb, the long way you see everyone do it (no inline fuel filter), and noticed an acceleration difference, better top end, and the car could idle upside down for 20-30 seconds.

I HATE the way the fuel lines are routed in these cars with so many moving parts etc., however it has to be done this way for performance reasons. I really do like the little fuel line housing beside the pipe, to keep it from touching and getting hot.
