Hyper 9 perhaps...

I was wondering when somebody would finally lean the motor over like that. Lower CG, closer to the middle, etc... The shocks still seem a little small.

IanWright 03-04-2008 01:10 PM

Hyper 8.5b?

My first thought is actually "I wonder how that will be affected by impact... like landing upside down?"

rezenclowd3 03-04-2008 01:32 PM

Isnt that the 12th scale? Also, when tilting an engine, it starts raising first, so its not a lower CG:rolleyes: Though more CG is centered...

RogerHewson 03-04-2008 02:38 PM

Yes it is the Mini Hyper ST...............

And you've won the Best Internet Grammar Award. Your insult was so hard to understand, I can only laugh! Now, back on topic.

I'll put this in terms that even Mr. rezenclowd3 can understand. When the things that stick up from the car/truck/anything with wheels, don't stick up as far, that makes the C.G. lower. C.G. stands for Center of Gravity. So when you say things like "Though more CG is centered" it sounds like "Automobile Car", or "Flying Airplane"...

I like the idea, and as I said, I'm surprised it hasn't been tried on an 8th scale buggy before. The trickiest part would be the throttle linkage. I've seen a similar attempt when Serpent made that F-1 car:

Neato.... what's with the big 9 in the ad?

slaytanic 03-04-2008 02:50 PM

Probably a .09 engine. Like the kyosho mini buggy. This would actually be cool. Might give the crt .5 some competion. Enought o make others jump on board and get some good class races going. I like this size. Still a mini but can run on 10th tracks or indoor. IMO 16th is like a toy. Thats why they never relly catch on. Plus at that size, nitro is really pointless and more trouble than it's worth.

Sorry, I was in a rush to type it before I drove to another job, I should have held off till later, instead of hitting post reply before it was clear. I meant that since the engine is tilted, the engine is closer to the CG of the vehicle. However, while tilting it, especially as many crank cases now have a square profile with heat sink fins on the bottom, you start to raise the CG of the engine first rather than lowering it. The engine may be tilted enough so that the CG is lowered considering that the tallest point (cooling head).

Still, I think it's what RogerHewson stated, the Hyper Mini ST.

Serpents F180 engine is tilted even further. It would be interesting to try to incorporate the idea into an 8th offroad vehicle.

I've seen better examples of poor grammar usage on these boards. ;) Hehe, flying airplanes, I like that one.

R40Victim 03-04-2008 03:03 PM

Yup, I'm a big ol' jerk...

I disagree though. If the head is lower, the C.G. is lower. The amount of mass that was lowered due to the lean, is greater than the mass raised in the lower part of the motor.... did that make any sense? :D

rezenclowd3 03-04-2008 03:18 PM

Hehe, that sort of made sense. Think of it this way, the cooling head has still been raised at several points (same with the whole engine, parts of it will be raising its CG until a certain angle is approached)

EDIT: you already said this. Sheesh, today is a bad day for me.

My guess is that there are no "square" cooling fins on the bottom of the crank case, so it can rotate without raising the crank case. Therefore, the CG of the engine should be lower at a lesser angle, vs a square crank case which will need to be raised first and tilted even further to lower the CG. Capisce? Probably not, pics would make it easier...

Just to clarify, I am not arguing about the design, I am sure it will work fine.

And no, your not a "big ol jerk." I found my lack of communication disturbing also:eek:

xlgraphicspro 03-04-2008 04:05 PM

I honestly think this is a new buggy, and not the 12th scale hyper st. main points of interest, no front bumper like the St, c hub design-the mini ST isn't and those are 1/8th scale tires in the picture.

Oh yeah, Both of you guys are Jerks!

I resemble that remark! :D

I get what you're saying. To make the bottom of the block clear the chassis, it might have to be raised, thus eliminating any gains. I think they'd just mill out the chassis right there under the motor, and get the advantage back. ;) It still looks pretty cool... The only reason I thought it may not work as well, is because the head won't get quite as much airflow. I think that can be resolved with a new body design. As long as the air filter doesn't get in the way, but I found a simple solution for that as well:

http://www2.gpmd.com/image/o/ofnc1950.jpg

I used one of these on my Jammin Truggy. The stock air filter was interrupting the airflow through the head. By moving it to one side, the engine temps dropped over 30 degrees!

rezenclowd3 03-04-2008 04:43 PM

R40, the above pic does not work.

Hopefully guys will start buying this. Its good to finally have a choice in this class. At least if you decide to race this class at a track that races these, you will have plenty of support and parts to share.

xlgraphicspro: unfortunatly RogerHewson from Ofna stated it was...

stiffler297 03-04-2008 06:13 PM

The motor will be a .12 motor similar to the CRT.5. This is why Hobao is making the Mini Hyper ST. Now I do have some inside info on this little rascal however. It will use the full size picco onroad touring car pipe (not sure wich one) but it's off of a 1/10 onroad car. Will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the .5 though.

stiffler297 03-04-2008 06:35 PM

Sorry bad info... Check this out.
