Good motor choice?
 

Need some advise on an inexpensive motor for a xxxnt. I bought it as an rtr but have changed pretty much everything other than the motor. Looking to get a decent motor for it. What exactly do I need as far as the crank goes? I am pretty sure I need a rotary carb also right? It has abeen a while since I have had it out and cant remember too much about it. I was always an electric guy.

The XXXNT requires the threaded (standard) crank, not an SG crank. If you are racing, you'll need a .12. The XXXNT truck will accomadate a rotary or slide carb with a side exhaust port or rear exhaust port.

I have always ran the OS CVR. It is very easy to tune, has good power, and lasts a very long time. The cvr has been discontinued, but you may be able to find a new one on ebay. My second choice would be an OS TG.

Look at the Dynamite SPD .12 and Platinum .12 as race engines. If you're not going to race, another good engine is the LRP .18 that they state is intended for 'RTR' stadium trucks such as yours. I believe they're made by the same people that make the Dynamite engines. It has a threaded crank and a rotary carb. You will notice that various engines in this class are available as both side exhaust and rear exhaust. Headers are available from Losi (cheaply) for your truck to utilize both types of engines.


As Kevin stated, make sure you get the right crankshaft type. Car engines come in three flavors:

1)SG (or piloted crank). This will not work for you.

2)Standard length threaded crank (also known as a 'standard' crank). This is the one you need.

3)Short threaded crank (also known as a 'cut' crank). This also will not work for you.

I found a peak motor dirt cheap on Stormer . It is a .15 side exhaust standard crank non pullstart which is fine. Are they ok motors? Its only $48.50. PART # IS PEK6030.

For the price, you can't go wrong. I had two that I ran when I had mt AD2 and liked them alot. Good power, held a tune, and got a good amount of run time ou tof it. I haven't looked in a while but they did have some .12's from Peak, if all they have are the .15's then go for it. Unless you are planning on running a ROAR event a .12 might not be needed unless your club track requires it. Most club races I have ran didn't seem to mind that size motor in there.

In my opinion personally,
The best motor for the XXXNT is the Thunder Tiger EVO .12! They are cheap and are insane fast! The local hobbytown has 5 or 6 of them for like $80 or so... Easy to tune... Hold a tune well... And they rip it up!!!

But thats just my opinion... I had one in my AD2... It was way too fast for me at that time... Definitely too much motor for a newbie....

All I am worried about is for club racing. I am not worried about a roar event. They dont have enough to field a class at our local track. I am sure that I will be in with the .5 crt's anyway. I was just looking and for 48.50 I might just buy two of them. Dont see how you can really go wrong.
