New XRAY 808
#31

Swiss made chassis, thats what is stated, not anywhere else. Remember Losi got in trouble for tagging Made in USA on china parts? I know of a UK company in the automotive business that is highly respected and when my friend recieved an order of parts from them, it wasn't from the UK. It was dropped shipped from Asia. They confronted the owner in UK and he had nothing to say. I'm in the automotive business. If you think these RC companies are selling you only European made products, your so sadly mistaken. Look at french Medial Pro. Its now back up and based in Hong Kong with the the new owner, under the same name. With the current economy, every manufacturer is running to china and taiwan to make more profit by cutting there bottm line costs.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure this Xray 808 is top quality, but dont think everything is what is used to be. It works out better for the end user. Lower prices is what we are all looking for.

Anyway onto the 808, did anyone else notice how absurdly tiny the new spur gear is?! That must be about 40 teeth!
I wouldn't say this looks like a Losi at all, besides the steering geometry setup. Every other part is very different from the Losi. The molded centre diff cap is off the old XB8R, which was released before the 8ight was around, and the front top plate is probably going to be plastic on the production car because Xray wouldnt go through all the trouble of making a new mold for that part and not using it. That would be a waste of time and money. Also it might seem like a copy of the Losi there, but why not use a molded front top brace, it should be lighter and cheaper, plus offer some flex, afterall both Losi and AE are using molded.

Tons of info on Xray's site:

There are many Lois-esque items on the car. Oversized bearings used to capture CVD pins, short arm/long pivot mount rear end and shock geometry, short rear chassis brace. That's not a bad thing for us racers though, sounds like they've taken the good stuff and added their own good stuff to it.

If you knew anything about Xray you would know that is not true. Xray uses HUDY spring steel (HUDY is another part of Xray) a material that was developed by HUDY themselves and all the parts in Xray cars are manufacturered in their Millenium plant in Slovakia excpet for bearings, springs, and mabye screws.Xray has the highest quality product bar none, and if they began to outsource to China their brand image would be shattered. Xray cars cost more than others for a reason.

On the new car, if Losi dropped this as the new 8ight, everyone would believe this is it. Thats how much the designs look the same.
As for the car, its damn good looking and the design is well thought out. We'll have to see how much they want for though and how long before it gets released here in the US.

For those of us that were late to the party, do we think any of the parts will be interchangeable? I suspect not, and man would that suck. I just bought one piece motor mounts for both my truggy and buggy! Oh well, looks like I will get to start all over with a new buggy....and man do the lines on it look sweet. Are we thinking that they are going to leave the hinge pin holders plastic to keep down the weight? How durable are those shock towers going to be as compared to the Aluminum ones? Nice to see the BB shocks, too bad I have two sets of Kyoshos...!
