Failed Glow Plug Analysis

Hi Guys,

To make things short, I have two dead glowplugs, and was wondering how to 'read' them. One has its coil darkened tremendously (*DGP#1 seems to have a coat of carbon too :eek:), and the other is as if it's new (*DGP#2 coil is visually brand new, shiny and all, but lasted for 3/4 tank :sweat:). What could be the cause of death? Perhaps either one is running too rich or lean....but that's just a guess. Also, is there any kind of benchmark on glow plug longetivity? Thanks :spidey:

Dave

Thank you so much bro! I've never imagined the answer is in the form of a video. Once again, thanks!

For those with low bandwidth connection/busy servers/in a work environment, here is the explanation;

Wet and Shiny, with wet base : Too Rich
Dry and Partly Grey, with slightly wet base : Rich, tuning almost optimal
Dry and Grey : Optimal
Dry and Distorted : Lean
Dry and Broken : Too lean

Best Regards,
Aaron
