Hey guys I went throught 4 plugs just trying to start this motor..

RB S5 .21 set to factory specs. It would start. REV up and blow the plug....It would run for 1 to 2 seconds...

It happen 4 times and I gave up..

Any input would be great....

MP, are you using any heat before starting the motor, and place an extra head shim in if it comes with one, It should start and idle with a med but if you have any hot plugs try one of those, it sounds like it is still cold and locking or gating stuck at TDC when running, heat the head up to 200 and place foi9l around the head to help hold a consistant temp while running, and keep the heast on it the entire time so the sleeve won't contract back down and pinch the sleeve. It sounds like it is still to tight, apply some heat and keep us posted.

Is your fuel fresh ? Any water in the fuel will blow glowplugs very easily.
So will any kind of possible cross contamination with other fuels.
Also if there is something wrong internally in the engine, bad bearing or rod can also take out the glowplug.

If it blows with an igniter still installed and its a power panel type like on the starter box itself, its most likely the voltage pot is set too high. If it is just running without an igniter installed and blows while running, check the glowplug and let us know how the wire looks. Is it pushed in, pulled out or looks new and has no glow at all with igniter installed?

I am using a rechargeble glow igniter. So it be over charged? On a new plug the wire was fraied and pushed in...

Can't be the glow igniter then. I would put a shim in the engine and try it again. How is the engines compression?

Comperssion is good... I have 2 .20mm shims in the motor

Any chance you sucked dirt into the engine. Dirt kills glow plugs fast. Or your to lean.

You bought the engine used from somebody on this forum didn't you? Did you tear the engine down and inspect it before running it? If you were lucky your used engine was advertised accurately. Most likely not so lucky.

If you didn't tear it down and inspect it I suspect DIRT.

after cleaning the engine, try a novarossi/rb plugs. They are better qlty. Sometime you do get a bad batch of plugs. Are all 4 plugs from the same sheet?

I use only Nova/RB plugs on my Nova/RB engine. try a 6.

rich up the top and botm a little and use a heat gun to heat up the engine.

If that does not work, then the engine is probably shot.

Also make sure the piston is installed correctly. I got an used engine before, the guy put the piston in backwards. The engine would start and die.

The oil hole on the conn rod is toward the front of the engine, the piston (if it has a cut is toward front of the engine) PLS Correct me if I am wrong.

Also check the pipe. I had a brand new pipe before and the pressure fitting was plugged. Had to send it back for replacement.

The engine would run for no more than 5 sec. (the engine can't suck fuel in becasue the pressure line is plugged.)

I got the motor running. Is it was not the pipe. The glow igniters I was using are the cheap 1800 mah one. I used my quick charger to chare them up.. It makes the glow plug GLOW brigt red? Is that too much voltage?
