Default No such thing as a stupid question!?

Yeah right, here goes:

Why the heck do the pros have their wheels removed when they take the podium pictures?

I've been seeing it a lot in magazines and online when reading race coverage.

Here is my guess. I think when the mains are over and before pics start the guys takes their cars apart clean them up real good then get the pics taken. But they do not want to hassle with cleaning the tires or mounting a new set for the pics.

Also another theory is that maybe driver X has to run a Panther tire to be fast and is sponsored by Proline. So therefore he writes down that he used one tire and actually used another and therefore cannot have the actual tire used in the pics.

Only thing I can think of is the tire sponsors don't want anyone getting a chance at a clear picture of what the winner's car was using.

Also, on offroad cars the large tires tend to obstruct the doors unless you take a dead-straight on side picture. Taking the tires off shows more of the body in a photograph, and you see more stickers.

Take this investigation further. See if the 'wheels off' photos are more prevelant at hand out tire races.

I think it’s just because the podiums that you usually see pictures of are the last races at the end of a long weekend. As soon as the drivers come off the stand they’re probably ready to pack up and hit the road home. They pull the tires off to put the car in the pit bag.

Good question...I honestly always have tires on my car in the pics. .... But I also always run my sponsors tires!
I'm not sure why some guys take their tires off and don't put them back on? My best guess would be the cleaning answer. Dirty tires.
