i just got a roto start should i replace any thing else

i just got an ofna roto start for my xtm engine. And then i used it and then it started to slip so i replaced the shaft. then i started to use it and it started slipping again. What should i do should i replace the bearings.

Sounds like the problem I just had. it was the pin and spring in the drive shaft that catches on the backplate of the starter not the shaft or bearing though. Really it was just the spring, I had the problem while breaking in my engine. went through about 3 set before the engine was loose enough to not strip them now everything is fine. hope this helps the part cost about 4 bucks. I could find the part # if you want.

spring

what does the spring do?

with the pin, it catches on the rotostart backplate when it is turned Mine got compacted since my engine was so tight during break in and had to be replaced. Does the start turn and turn? take of the rotostart then the back plate. pull the shaft and it is seated in the crank where the piston arm is connected. You will see a little pin. pull it out with needle nosed pliers and the spring is in that hole. you may need a pick to get it out if it is compressed. Hope that helps, it took me a week to figure out that was my problem. It was the last thing I replaced too!
